A Sample Public School Is Still the Top Choice Opinion is divided on education method, which has long been a heatedly discussed issue. Some prefer public schools as they create more favorable learning environments, allowing children to cultivate various skills by exposing them to peers of different backgrounds, while others embrace homeschooling, holding that the teacher, often played by the parent, can give individual attention to the children and use customized teaching methods to make learning an interesting experience. As far as I am concerned, public schooling is still the top choice. For one thing, public schools are often equipped with first-class facilities, well-trained teachers and diversified courses, enabling children to learn happily in a comfortable environment and making all-round development possible. For another, as members of a group, children can develop skills of communication and cooperation as well as establish good personal relationships so that they tend to better adapt to new environments and get along well with others in future. However, public schooling also has its downsides—it is often complained that public schools are lacking in flexibility and peer pressure in fierce competition is detrimental to children’s mental health. Therefore, it is evident that public schools are well worth promoting. Without public schools, all-round development of children would be only a rosy dream. But they also need better adaptability. Only by innovating teaching methodology and perfecting management can public schools accommodate individual needs for education. Advantages of attending public schools Public schools provide children with many advantages both inside and outside the classroom. They generally have a range of children from a wide variety of backgrounds. This provides an opportunity for children to learn to negotiate with others, accepting and challenging other points of view, and learning to understand people with diverse backgrounds and values. The funding from the government allows public schools to offer an array of advanced classes in the arts, technology studies and the sciences, any and all of which might be difficult to provide by homeschooling parents who do not have specialized training. Public schools also expose students to a variety of teachers, which gives them an opportunity to learn from diverse pedagogies. Advantages of homeschooling Homeschooling has benefits that can hardly be realized in public schools. One of the biggest advantages of homeschooling is the fact that the teacher, the parent, can give individual attention to the child. Homeschooled children often have a better understanding of lessons and cover more materials than their peers. In a familiar setting, children are more likely to actively participate in their lessons. Because homeschooled children do not have set hours, they can work at their own pace at any point during the day. Moreover, homeschooled children do not grow up with the pressure of trying to be like everyone else in order to fit in, so they are not so easily influenced by their peers.
