School context School planning process Arranounbai School is a school for specific purposes (SSP). The student population is quite diverse and consists of children and young people K-12. The types and levels of disability vary from physical disability, autism, intellectual disability to chronic medical conditions. Each class have a full-time teacher and school learning support officers. Arranounbai School aims to improve the learning performance of all of its students and children in diverse areas including academic, physical, social, behavioural and self-care. All students and children, through personalised programs, engage in learning that is relevant and engaging, maximising their opportunity to succeed in the current and future environments. The school achieves its outcomes for all students in collaboration with families, other professionals and community members and groups. The place that Arranounbai School maintains in the local community is essential to providing students with a thorough and detailed education that is relevant to their needs. The provision of a safe, enhanced and ordered learning environment translates into high level outcomes in all areas and maximises success. Information on developing the school plan in the Special Education setting 12th November Planning Day WCoS – Planning day held at Arranounbai School for the Warringah Community of Schools – all executive from Arranounbai attended. 19th November Planning Day Arranounbai School executive and Community members. Parents and community members invited to a planning day for the development of the school plan. Executive released from class to be involved in the plans development, 5 parents attended the day to give their input. Draft School Plan presented at whole school staff meeting and input invited. To achieve student growth in school based assessments with a focus on Literacy and Maths using differentiated strategies to support all students achieving their potential Improvement Measures ILP targets specific and identify student needs. People Processes How do we develop capabilities of our people to bring about transformation? How do we do it and how will we know? Students: Communication and levels of achievement will be improved through the development of engaging, differentiated teaching and learning designed to meet the needs of all individuals. Staff: Equip staff though PL to assess and develop differentiated programs Parents: Improved systems of communication will provide collaborative and inclusive partnership opportunities that will develop parent’s confidence in contributing to the school community. Community partners: Supportive partnerships will be strengthened with external community networks to provide real world learning opportunities and experiences for students through mutually beneficial programs and initiatives. Professional Learning: Develop staff proficiency in multi-faceted communication (styles) systems to cater for individual learning styles National Curriculum Provide staff training in the National Curriculum Syllabus documents in order to implement the new curriculum as per BOS and DEC guidelines. All teachers undertaking accreditation successfully complete and maintain the process. All SASS staff trained and updated in Health Care procedures. People How do we develop capabilities of our people to bring about transformation? Students: Students will engage in being quality learners focusing on positive classroom engagement and social relationships. Parents: Will have the opportunity to engage in students learning, developing a collaborative learning community. Community: Volunteers recruited and encouraged within the school community Staff: Will develop individual learning programs in their classrooms to ensure all students are engaged and progressing at their own pace. Through site based PL develop the mindset that growth of learning outcomes can occur as a result of formative assessment. Through discussion develop staff capacity to identify evidence from data. All staff will implement assessment based teaching and learning within the classroom Align teacher professional learning to the Australian Standards for Teaching and the Principal Standards through reflective and evidenced based practisesaccreditation and promotion. To develop student confidence through awareness, support and understanding of our diverse school. Improvement Measures All classes will participate in a community orientated activity throughout the year. A formalised and ongoing relationship with St Luke’s Grammar School. People How do we develop capabilities of our people to bring about transformation? Students: Will develop confidence and communication skills when interacting with the wider community. Staff: Improve lines of communication between themselves parents, and students using written, verbal, and electronic communication channels. Staff to create explore and maintain relationships with the wider community. Parents: Parents and care givers are able to engage with the school at a level that suits their personal family circumstances. To develop and communicate the schools identity to the wider community through building proactive Learning Alliances and mentoring programs with local schools. Evaluation Plan: Feedback from St Luke’s student’s reflective journals. A vibrant active P&C established. Products and Practices What is achieved and how do we know? Practices :Development of a close relationship with local primary schools Products: All classes will participate in a community orientated activity throughout the year. Practise: Continue the ongoing relationship with the Warringah Community of Schools Product: A formalised and ongoing relationship with St Luke’s Grammar School. Practise: Encourage communication and participation of social and learning opportunities with Special Schools in the Northern Sydney Area. Practise: Explore with community members’ new model for the P&C Practise: Parents and care givers both engage with and contribute to school life and improvement in ways that are appropriate to their capability and circumstances.
