Dear Parents:
The third grade classes have been learning our multiplication facts. Our
goal is to learn the basic multiplication math facts with fluency. Starting this
semester, your child will be required to know his/her multiplication facts 0-10
fluently. To make this a bit more fun, we have come up with an incentive to
help motivate your child to achieve this goal. Your child will be working
towards a multiplication facts ice cream party! As your child successfully
passes each fact family, he/she will earn a part of the ice cream cone tracker.
For example, when we take our 5’s test, if your child passes, he/she will be able
to color one scoop of ice cream and place it on their ice cream cone tracking
sheet. Your child will do this for each of their multiplication tests. The last
test is a combination of all the facts mixed together to receive a cherry on top.
When your child has achieved the full ice cream cone with a cherry on top,
they will be invited to the third grade ice cream party. Your child must have
their ice cream cone multiplication tracker completed by March 3rd.
If your child does not complete and pass all 11 tests before this date, they will
be working on multiplication facts in a study hall during the ice cream party.
The ice cream party will be held on March 10th. Each week your child will be
taking at least 2 multiplication tests a week and chances to retake tests as
necessary. Your child must pass each test in order to move on to the next fact
family. Your child will know, in advance, the test he/she will be taking as we will
track each child’s progress. Within your child’s take-home folder you will be
able to see your child’s progress on the ice cream cone multiplication tracker.
Please encourage your child by having them study his/her facts every night. If
you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
As always, thank you for your support,
The 3rd Grade Team
