Annual Softball League Meeting
This meeting is an annual update for all team captains, head coaches/managers and individuals about softball
league rules, procedures, fee structure and administrative practices. Rules and scorebooks are provided, free of
charge. The meeting is: Thur., May 4 @ 6 p.m., Santo Community Center - Main Hall.
Rules, Regulations and Procedures
Consult the softball page at sportsmedford.com for the latest version of city-league softball rules, regulations
and procedures. ASA rules apply unless modified by local rules. League rules and procedures are subject to
change anytime but revisions generally occur prior to the start of the season.
Rosters
An official team roster, including the signatures and contact information for all participants, is due at USCCP
prior to Game 1. Players may be added to the roster until the start of the final regular-season game. Players
must compete in at least one regular season to be eligible for playoffs. Rosters are available at the fields or
online at sportsmedford.com on the softball league page.
Participation/Eligibility
A player may not:
1. Compete on multiple teams in the same day-specific league.
2. Compete at multiple gender-specific skill levels during the same season.
a. Men’s A players may not compete on Men’s B or Men’s C teams.
b. Men’s B players may not compete on Men’s A or Men’s C teams.
c. Men’s C players may not compete on Men’s A or Men’s B teams.
The same principle above applies to participants in Women’s and Co-Ed leagues. Players are classified by their
participation at the highest skill level during the current season. For example, a player who competes on a
Men’s A team at any point during the season is considered a Men’s A player for the remainder of the season.
A player may:
1. Compete in leagues on different days at the same skill level. Examples are:
a. Monday Men’s C players may play on a Thursday Men’s C team, and vice-versa.
b. Sunday Co-Ed players may play on a Tuesday Co-Ed team at the same skill level, and viceversa.
Players who competed on a Men’s Upper (A/B) team within the same calendar year as the current league must
use a wood bat if competing on a Co-Ed C team.
Senior and Church leagues are separate from the Men’s A, B and C leagues.
League Skill Levels
Men’s A League (Very Competitive)
This league features the best slowpitch softball players in the Rogue Valley and those wanting to compete at the
highest level. Most participants play on competitive travel teams and were varsity players in high school or
college. The top-tier teams are ASA “D” teams at the national level.
Men’s B Leagues/Church (Competitive)
Top-tier teams would compete favorably at the ASA “E” level but only a few players compete on weekend
travel teams. These teams generally hit the ball well, but defense might be spotty. This is the place to start for
new teams wanting to have fun in a competitive atmosphere.
Men’s C Leagues (Recreational)
A purely recreational league where the object is to have a good time and not take things too seriously. There are
many inexperienced players mixed in with some very good players from a wide range of age. This is the place
to start for new teams not concerned about winning championships.
Co-Ed B League (Competitive)
Features very good players and athletes, and most women’s players have city-league softball experience and
know what to expect. There are very few inexperienced players at this level; this league is not the place for
beginners or individuals not confident with their softball skills.
Co-Ed C League (Recreational)
A purely recreational league where the object is to have a good time and not take things too seriously. There are
many inexperienced/unskilled players mixed in with some very good players. This is the place to start for new
teams not concerned about winning championships.
Women’s B League (Competitive)
This league features veteran City-league performers who know what to expect and players with adequate
softball skill sets developed at the high-school level. Many participants play on competitive travel teams and
were varsity players in high school or college.
Women’s C League (Recreational)
A purely recreational league where the object is to have a good time and not take things too seriously. Teams
consist of inexperienced or unskilled players mixed in with a handful of very good players with a recreational
mindset. This is the place to start for new teams not concerned about winning championships.
