Dear Parents
As you are aware Stoke Mandeville Combined School has an Additional Resource Provision for Hearing Impaired pupils
(HI-ARP). Most pupils in the HI-ARP receive weekly Speech and Language Therapy sessions with our two Speech
Therapists Glynis Haines and Mo Marron. One of the weekly Year 5 sessions is to do with conversational skills and to
that end we would like to invite all children in Year 5 to participate in one session during the course of the year.
The purpose of this session will be twofold. Firstly the hearing impaired pupils will be developing strategies to help
them sustain a conversation for example asking someone to repeat what they have said. Secondly for the hearing
pupils it will help them to appreciate the difficulties that their deaf peers face in conversational situations and will
hopefully provide them with some strategies to assist them.
The hearing pupils will be chosen randomly throughout this academic year and each pupil will only attend one 45 minute
session. If you are willing for your child to participate in a Speech and Language session with their deaf peers would you
please return the slip below to the office?
