Code of Conduct 2009/10

Code of Conduct 2011/12 - By the Student Council
At Don Valley it is vital that everybody shows concern and consideration for others. This is at the
heart of the Code of Conduct. We, the Student Council have set out below the key points of the
Code of Conduct and believe with your support we can help make Don Valley a safe, learning
environment where all students can achieve.
a) Absence from the academy: Student absence should be accounted for by a note from parents
and handed in to form tutors on the first day back. You can find absence slips at the back of the
planner. It keeps staff informed about illness as well as checking that absence was legitimate.
b) School Dress: We expect every student to wear the school uniform set out in the School
Uniform List
c) Danger to pedestrians on site: For safety reasons students should not use the
Jossey Lane staff car park entrance and should only cycle in the cycle lanes provided.
d) Damage to property Every student should respect the property of others and the academy.
Damage to property should be reported and students will be expected to pay for repairs if they are
at fault.
f) Correct equipment for the job: Every student should bring to school: a bag, pen,
pencil, ruler, rubber and the correct books and kit for the day.
g) Lateness: Students are expected to be punctual. If you arrive late you must report to the
School Reception which has now been moved to the back of the Administration Block to obtain your
attendance mark.
h) Litter: Our environment needs to be kept litter-free. All students are
expected to ensure that litter is placed in the litter bins provided around the site.
i) Leaving the academy site: Students should not leave the grounds during the morning or afternoon
sessions without permission from a member of staff. The academy has a legal duty to act as ‘caring
parent’ whilst the academy is in session and this cannot happen if the student is not there.
During the lunch period, only students in Year 11 and those whose parents have let the academy
know that their daughter/son is not the responsibility of the academy may leave the site. If this is
the case a pass will be issued and the student must remain off-site over the whole period. We
encourage students and parents to opt for staying on-site at lunch, as the school meals are
excellent. You can also bring sandwiches.
ONLY pupils who live in Scawsby may cross the Great North Road at lunchtimes
and then only if the parent wishes them to go home.
j) Movement around the academy: Students are expected to walk around the school in a safe and
quiet manner. Keep to the left on stairs and corridors.
k) Don Valley and the Community: The way we as students act outside of the academy reflects on
the image of Don Valley. Therefore, it is expected that students will be helpful and courteous to
members of the community both in and off site.
l) Consumption of caffeine rich drinks such as Red Bull are banned on the academy site
m) Mobile phones and i-pods: Students can bring mobile phones and i-pods subject to the points
below:
These must be switched off during lessons and as we move around the
building during the day
 They CAN be used at Break and Lunchtimes. E-safety rules must be
followed (no videoing of students, staff etc.) The sending of abusive
or inappropriate text messages/images is Not Allowed
 Students must accept responsibility for loss, theft or damage. The
school will not take responsibility for anyone’s phone or i-pod under
any circumstances

Staff will continue to confiscate any phone or i-pod being
used, or switched on in lessons. Phones and i-pods must be handed
over immediately to any member of staff on request. Defiance will
not be tolerated.

Where a phone or i-pod is confiscated for the second occasion an adult must come and
collect it.
