ACADEMIC SUCCESS AT BAYFIELD HIGH SCHOOL At Bayfield High School we are dedicated to academic excellence. Each individual is provided with the opportunities to reach their full learning potential. We focus on teaching the skills that enable students to develop their own learning strategies. This allows students to pursue the highest levels of achievement. Setting learning goals is a powerful strategy as students are focussed and motivated to obtain their desired outcomes. All senior students are conferenced individually to help them establish their future education and career pathways. We offer a Gifted and Talented programme and scholarship courses; as well as providing extra support as necessary. Tutorials are widely available, senior students offer academic assistance to others and we have a Homework Centre. Bayfield High School believes in fostering academic pride and provides a learning environment that supports excellence. Bayfield High School NCEA pass rates 2014 NCEA Pass Rates Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 University Entrance Bayfield 83.8% 90.5% 88.7% 76.3% National 84.2% 88.3% 80.7% 61.8% These results are a clear demonstration of the level of success at which our students are achieving academically. We have seen dramatic improvements in our results over recent years. Our focus is on assisting all students to achieve their very best. This means that students who arrive at secondary school believing they are “just average” often end up gaining at least a Merit endorsement in NCEA, which places them clearly in the top half of students across the country. Helping students to build on their strengths, conquer their weaknesses and find their passions is part of how we foster success at Bayfield High School. Looking ahead to beyond school and ensuring that opportunities are available through the correct qualifications is an important part of our goal setting with students. Coursing students into pathways and disciplines that engage with their aspirations is a key feature of our careers advisory service. This includes subjects that may be traditionally considered vocational pathways that we have carefully aligned with the key elements and skills required in a competitive employment environment. We believe in achieving a top result for all students, not just those who are already academically able. Over the page you will see listed the names of some of our highest achieving students in a wide range of academic fields.
