Behaviour Policy
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
At St. Catherine's, as a part of the Catholic Church Community,
We respect and value each other and our uniqueness, given to us from God.
We welcome the diversity of our community and strive to be prepared for the
challenges of the future.
We endeavour, as followers of Jesus, to shape confident and creative lifelong learners.
Together, we have strength, support and success.
Our Policy
 Provides a framework to ensure a consistent approach throughout the whole school
 Supports our expectation that behaviour is good
 Supports the aims in our Mission Statement, particularly those referring to our wish to
provide a happy understanding atmosphere
 Supports our provision of a safe and secure environment
 Expects our children to be aware of the consequences of their actions
 Contributes to and supports effective learning and teaching
Aims:
To enable the children to:
 Feel happy and secure and to learn to trust and develop positive attitudes to life in a
caring atmosphere
 Develop an understanding of Christian and moral values as well as respect for other
cultures and ways of life
 Move towards independence, self motivation and self discipline in a firm yet caring
school ethos
 Learn to live and work with other people and to care for them and for the environment
 Develop a positive self image and an awareness of the equality of individuals
 Set good examples to other children
 Have good examples set them by the adults in school
Our School Expectations
At St. Catherine’s Catholic Primary School, we expect our children:
 To respect other people – ALL adults and children by displaying well-mannered
behaviour
 To look after our school
 To follow the instructions that adults give us in school;
 Our school WILL NOT TOLERATE behaviour that is hurtful to anyone.
We recognise that good behaviour needs teaching and that rules for our younger children,
whilst grounded in the expectations indicated, will be couched in different terms from
those for our older children. To this end we have expressed the rules associated with the
expectations in age-appropriate action.

Behaviour Policy
Individuals following our rules may receive
(a) Praise by adults in school
(b) Praise by the Head Teacher in special cases
(c) Certificate presented at the weekly Celebration Assembly
For children with individual needs, a Report Form may be used and a home to school
record may be drawn up by the class teacher/SENCO to support behaviour. In addition,
the materials: Planning for Positive Behaviour and the Cumbria Behaviour Curriculum
may be used.
Pupil Rewards
Class teachers are also able to set up class rewards for their pupils provided these rewards
operate within the Behaviour Policy, the rules, expectations and sanctions. Each class has
a system for pupils to gain ‘Golden Time,’ which is monitored and maintained by the Class
Teacher and Teaching Assistants. Class rules and rewards may be drawn up in conjunction
with our Catholic Faith, SEAL materials and PSHE target setting activities.
The school has a reward system in place, MyStickers.com. Each pupil has a personal,
password protected page on the MyStickers website which is accessible from home and
can be shared with parents. Pupils are awarded stickers which display a unique number. At
a time designated by the class teacher, the pupils are allowed to enter the codes they have
collected, which gain them points within the system. The accumulated points allow the
pupils to trade items for their onscreen persona. The HT also has coded stickers and in
special cases, coded postcards which are sent home.
Sanctions in the event that expectations are not kept by individuals
1. The child is withdrawn temporarily from an activity and the misdemeanour is
highlighted
2. The whole class is spoken to, without naming the child (rather, the action is discussed)
3. Playtime privileges may be withdrawn
4. One to one discussion and work with adult – removal of the child from the group
5. Parents informed informally
6. Child placed on Report
7. Head Teacher informed and parents informed formally
Beyond this, if there is a cause for concern, an incident log is kept into which each incident
is recorded, thereby allowing a clear record to be maintained.
The lunchtime supervisors are encouraged to report good and poor behaviour to the class
teacher at the start of afternoon school. Anything more serious is reported to a member of
the Teaching Staff and is dealt with promptly.
