Weekly Newsletter What we have been doing this week. What a lovely week this week has been. As per normal it has been another busy one, we have been looking at growth again this week. We have swapped dinosaur land to bug world and we added in rocks as well as the seeds and have been waiting patiently to see what happens. The caterpillars have been fascinating to watch, when we came in after the weekend they had grown, one of the children said “look at the caterpillars, they are massive!”. On Thursday morning 4 of the 5 caterpillars had attached themselves to the top of the pot and by the afternoon 2 were already inside their chrysalis. In the art area we have been model making, we have been showing the children what they can make from boxes and balloons and all sorts of ‘junk’, the children then covered their models with paper mache. Of course we then had to wait for them to dry before we could paint or decorate them. On Wednesday we had a delivery of boxes, so Wednesday afternoon we got all the boxes out to see what the children did with them. To start with they weren’t too sure but after some discussion they started to let their imaginations run wild. We had boats, houses, places to hide and even a snail made out of the boxes. This could be something you could try at home, what could you make with a box? If you try this at home, send us in your pictures. Maths and literacy run through all we do through play, however in the maths area this week we had a ‘make a cake’ section. The ingredients (split peas, rice and cereal) were put into tubs with either a scoop or jug or spoon with them. These were put onto mats with a number on, the children had to identify the number then either scoop, pour or tip the ingredients into a bowl. We also had a white board for the children to record their notes. This activity was good in so many ways, the tipping and pouring alone attracted the children to the area as well as them telling us they needed an oven (a bigger tub) to bake the cake and a timer to see how long it needed in the oven. Literacy this week has been letter and letter sound recognition. We have been practicing the alphabet and speaking about words and what letter the word started with and the sound it made. Quiz and Curry Night So tonight sees the second Quiz and Curry night. Curry will be served as you arrive at 7pm, bar is open from 18.30. We have some wonderful raffle prizes for you to win and hope you all have a great night. Toys from home Please can we ask that children do not bring toys in from home. Staff cannot be responsible for looking after the toys and lost toys can lead to upset children and parents. SUNNY WEATHER We know the weather can be hit and miss, often with a few days of glorious sun followed by rain. However, in the hot sunny weather we will need you to do the following. Please apply sun cream on your child before bringing them into Pre-School. We can top up through the day with our own or with yours. If you have put on the permission form you would like us to use your own you must bring it in and have the sun cream labelled. If we do not have your sun cream your child will not be allowed outside during hot weather. Sun hats must be worn when the children are outside. Please bring in a sun hat and also make sure it has your child’s name written in it. We do advise you not to let your children wear crocs, flip flops or sandals. This is because children can find it hard to run and climb in these types of shoes. Also if we go for nature walks sticks/stones and other such things can get stuck in them which can be painful for your child. Fees Can we ask for prompt payment of fees, if you have any questions please contact Claire (details on the bottom of your invoice). GARDEN We are on the hunt for some willow. The reason for this is we would like to make a willow tunnel in our garden patch. Do you have any spare? If we can get some willow we will then need some volunteers to help make the tunnel. The children have started to plant some seeds which we hope we will be able to plant out in the garden once ready. We really want to get the garden going and the weeks are going very quickly. Thames Run An update from Faye and Kirstie…Training hasn’t gone that well due to the ladies feeling a little poorly. However, with a promise of an ice cream waiting at the end this has spurred them on again. Don’t forget you can sponsor them either by texting the number on the back of their jumpers or there is a form outside of Pre-School.
