Consider facts about the existing PSGs in the formulation of a new set of PSGs in teacher education that integrate ICT-Pedagogy Humor in the Classroom After a lesson on metaphor , the teacher asked the class to describe each other including teacher using metaphor. A student raised his hand and said: “Ma’am, you are music to me”. The teacher was very much delighted and asked why. The student said , “ because your eyes are sharp and your nose is flat!” Humor in the Classroom Teacher : Ben, your essay on “My Dog” is exactly the same as your brother’s . Did you copy it? Ben: No, Ma’am. It’s the same dog. Humor at Home Grandson: Grandpa, am so inspired that up to now you call Grandma “sweetheart”! Grandpa: Come here, grandson. Don’t ever tell this to Grandma. You see I’ve forgotten her name! Policies ,Standards and Guidelines Teacher Education for 2 Documents - CHED Memo Order 30, s. 2004, Revised Policies and Standards for Undergraduate Teacher Education Curriculum - CHED Memo Order 52, s. 2007, Addendum to CMO 30 ( NCBTS) Take note! The NCBTS ( CMO 52, s, 2007) came 3 years after the Revised Policies and Standards for Teacher Education. • The NCBTS is more recent than CMO 30, s. 2004. CMO 30, s. 2004 - 11 competency standards of teacher education graduates - more broad statements The NCBTS - 7 domains , 19 strands , 78 performance indicators - more specific statements The NCBTS - core of the DepEd’s Teacher Education Development Program since 2007 - adopted by TEIs in the country - basis for the Licensure Examination for Teachers by the Board for Professional Teachers Competency standards for pre-service / in-service CMO 30 , 2004 Competency Standards - Teacher Education graduates NCBTS ( CMO 52, 2007) Competency Standards for Teacher Performance in the light of TEDP Where is ICT in these PSGs ? CHED Memo 54 , 2007 – NCBTS Domain Curriculum -Strand 4.7. Demonstrate the skills in the use of ICT in teaching and learning Domain 4 – Curriculum The 10 competencies that you were given for Worksheet B- not part of the NCBTS - were lifted from the Teacher Strengths and Needs Analysis (TSNA) tool of DepEd Competencies and NOT from the NCBTS. Where is ICT in the PSGs contained in CHED Memo 30, 2004 ? There is no explicit mention of ICT use in teaching nor ICT integration in teaching . Where is ICT in PSGs ( CMO 30) Implicit in 5 competency standards ICT Integration in the existing PSGs? ICT use and integration may relate most to the ff. competency standards : - Have the basic and higher level literacy , communication, numeracy, critical thinking, learning skills ICT Integration in the existing PSGs? Can apply a wide range of teaching process skills ( including curriculum development, lesson planning, materials development , educational assessment , and teaching approaches ) ICT integration in the Existing PSGs Can demonstrate and practice the professional and ethical requirements of the teaching profession - use ICT safely , legally and ethically ICT integration in the Existing PSGs Can facilitate learning of diverse types of learners , in diverse types of learning environments , using a wide range of teaching knowledge and skills ICT Integration in Existing PSGs Can be creative and innovative in thinking of alternative learning approaches …. Our Next Workshop Formulation of new PSGs that integrate ICT-pedagogy New PSGs for Teacher Education ? If expected output is New PSGs for Teacher Education -Revise the existing Revised PSGs for Teacher Education? -Consider making ICT integration more explicit in the 5 most ICT –related Competency standards New PSGs for Teacher Education? Consider the ICT- strand and the corresponding ICT performance indicator in the NCBTS. Consider ICT competencies in the TSNA. Something to Think About In the light of the K to 12, ICT-related research findings and global demands , the present NCBTS developed in 2007 and CMO 30, 2004 ( Revised Teacher Education Curriculum) are being revisited and will be revised soon. Which is better? Formulate PSGs for teacher education as a whole which include ICT integration? Or Formulate an independent set of ICTPedagogy PSGs ? The decision is ours!
