Considering
the
Bilateral
Agreement
about
Economic,
Industrial
and
Technologic Cooperation between the Government of the EederativePepublic
of Brazil and the Government of Sweden signed on the

This memorandum of Understanding (IvloU) Is intended to
cooperation and advancement of international

from Swedish and Brazilian Institutions

The cooperation will be promoted in areas that are mutually beneficial to
the academic communities of both countries

Specific areas of cooperation can be selected as agreed by the parties

l^lo contract will arise between the Parties until an agreement regarding
each objective is negotiated, executed and delivered by the Parties
PARAGRAPH II - ON THE OBJECTIVES
1. The Parties may agree to develop collaborative activity as follows:
a) Promote the exchange of scientists and scholars;
b) Promote research in the education field and related areas;
c) Foster partnerships between universities;
d) Sponsor seminaries, workshops and conferences;
e) Promote joint research programmes and projects as part of activities
outlined in subsections "a" to "d" of this paragraph; and
f)
Exchange of best practices.
2. Other forms of cooperation may be determined through mutual consultation.
PARAGRAPH III - ON THE FINANCE
1. Each Party will facilitate and fund the mentioned activities through their
regular
activities
and
funding
programmes
taking
into
account
any
constraints of time, funding and other relevant resources, as well as
applicable law
2. Researchers with a PhD taking part in activities under the scope of this MoU
will be eligible for consideration for funding.
3. Undergraduate students taking part in activities under the scope of this MoU
will be eligible for consideration for Scholarship funding under C A P E S
Programs. Any tuition fee discounts will require agreements of individual
institutions.
4. Where joint activities lead to the establishment of a separate Agreement,
such agreements shall include financial information.
PARAGRAPH IV - ON THE LEGISLATION AND FORMALIZATION
1. This MoU will be subjected to the laws and regulations in force in Sweden
and in Brazil.
2. A s a way to implement this MoU, the Parties will formalize a Cooperation
Agreement to establish the joint programs.
PARAGRAPH V - ON THE REPRESENTATION
1. In order to coordinate the activities in this M o U , the Swedish Research
Council and C A P E S will create a Steering Committee of the Programme,
composed of a principal and an alternate representative from the Swedish
Research Council and a principal and alternate representative of C A P E S .
2. It is the responsibility of the Steering Committee to resolve any technical,
administrative or financial questions that may arise during the execution of
this MoU, as well as to oversee its overall functioning, consulting their
respective superiors of each institution, if a need should arise.
PARAGRAPH VI - ON THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
1. Regarding Intellectual
Property, this
MoU will be implemented
under
relevant Swedish and Brazilian laws.
PARAGRAPH VII - ON THE VALIDITY
1. This Memorandum of Understanding will take effect on the date of its
signature, considering the date of the last signature given, for a period of five
years, at which time it may be renewed for another period of time, formalized
by an addendum.

The conditions established in this memorandum may be modified, by written
agreement between the Parties and with proper justification, and any such
proposed modification will be presented,at least,gO(ninety) days before the
date that the changes should be implemented.

ON THE TERMINATION
^1 This Memorandum of Understanding may be discontinued by any o f t h e
Parties, providing that the party formally notifies the other, at least ^0
(ninety) days before the discontinuation is to come into effect.

Any suoh termination
will not affeot projects and scholarships already
underway, except when both Parties jointly decide otherwise
