Outline and Invitation – Introduction to
Renewable Energy Technologies, 12 th – 13th
November 2012 at EARTH University
Introduction
In order to implement renewable energy technologies in Costa Rica, one of the most important instruments is
the education of personnel who are able to handle technology and design as well as the compilation, building,
operation and maintenance of systems.
The project REN@EARTH will implement capacity-building on renewable energy (RE). The aim is to strengthen
the basis for an increased use of renewable energy technologies in order to reduce carbon emissions and
energy imports. By facilitating know-how transfer the foundation for a sustainable local value creation shall be
built.
This overview seminar is part of the REN@EARTH project. We would like to offer an introduction to renewable
energy technologies, their use and their applications, to interested people from the Limon region. The aim of
these classes is awareness rising for new technologies and also allowing the building of a network and setting
up a dialogue between relevant stakeholders and the interested public.
Objectives
At the end of the two-day seminar participants will have:

broad view of the technologies Photovoltaic, Solar Thermal, Bioenergy and Hydropower

an understanding of technical aspects of these technologies

a grasp on applications and examples

knowledge of economic principles
Target groups and prerequisites for application
The target group for the seminar consists of interested people, preferentially from the Limón area, that can
fulfil the following requirements:

good command of the English language

practical experience in the use of standard instruments
