Premises 2
CLTS Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I have two premises numbers, one from the CCIA and one from my province,
which do I use?
A: You should use your provincially recognized premises number. All provinces and territories except for
Nunavut and Northwest Territories now have provincially assigned premises numbers. Prior to the provincial
systems, the CLTS created PID numbers to enable movement recording but those numbers are no longer valid
unless they were 'grandfathered'.
In some cases, the provinces were able to ‘grandfather’ existing CCIA premises numbers. Producers would
have been notified by their province of the appropriate PID to use. ‘Grandfathered’ numbers from AB will start
with an ‘AB’. Alberta Agriculture created premises numbers start with an ‘AA’ or an ‘AT’. All other provinces
premises numbers whether 'grandfathered' or not begin with the abbreviated letters of your province, e.g.
Manitoba is MB.
Once you have registered your legal land information with your province you can add the assigned premises
number to your CLTS account. You can either replace the existing CLTS generated number or add the new
number. Click here for instructions on how to do so.
If you need further clarification, please contact the CCIA.
In Alberta, you can contact your local mobile field representative or the Ag info Centre at 310-FARM (3276).
