Name: Phuong Le Homeroom: 7CN Mark Ginder History Invention of a Game – Mega Man 2 Mega Man 2 (or known as “Rockman: The Enigma of Dr. Wily” in Japan) is a game released in December 24th, 1988 by Capcom under the system NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). The game was widely popular and well accepted by fans as well as critique. Through this essay, I’m going to display to you the history of Mega Man and telling how it was changed overtime as well as explaining to you how the game is creative. I chose to do this game because I heard that it was really good and fun. Once it was considered the best video game of all time and also because I can tell that the game is the type of game I like when I looked at a picture of the game. The first game of Mega Man (also known as “Rockman” in Japan) was released by Capcom under the system NES in December 17th, 1987. Mega Man 1 was a marketable game that was liked by players and critiques but it wasn’t a big hit game that could bring financial success to the company because of lack quality in the graphics and play control. Kejji Inafune was the designer of the game even though it was his first year at Capcom. The game was made to start a sequel; Capcom invested much money into the next Mega Man which paid off. Mega Man 2 was created shortly after the first game. It was a big hit game that was released in the US and it sold 1.5 million copies. Inafune and his team spent their free time while making other Capcom games develop Mega Man 2. They reused some of the affects that was used in the first Mega Man. “Mega Man” – The name of the game, was built around a character called Mega Man. He was a boy robot that has a blue shiny iron coat outside. The story was that Dr. Light created Mega Man to stop the evilness that Dr. Wily is creating which are the 6 master robots – Bomb Man, Fire Man, Ice Man,… To win the game, you have to destroy all the robot masters. The plot of Mega Man 2 was similar to the story above but it was a revenge of Dr. Wily to Dr. Light, who created 2 more robots for the total of 8 master robots. The graphics in Mega Man were much better than the last game. The music of the game was really memorable for players of the game. The game’s difficulty is easy even though there are 2 levels. The control of the game is much better than the control of games at that time, but it stills slide a little. But overall, the game was a well-polished and upgraded version from the first Mega Man. Name: Phuong Le Homeroom: 7CN Mark Ginder The hugely successful game Mega Man 2 was a motivation for Capcom to keep on releasing new Mega Man games. Mega Man 3 was released on September 28th, 1990, again it was universally acclaimed with 1 million sales as well as the fact that it is being released in the US only one month after the release in Japan. But also in 1990, a game for the DOS (Disk Operating System) was only released in the US due to the rising popularity of the Mega Man series. The game was received poorly from players and critiques due to its differences from the original series. Later on, Capcom were releasing a crazy amount of Mega Man games with much confusion that disappointed the fans. The franchise was divided into 6 sub-series and releasing even up to eight games in 3 years (2000 – 2003)! The game itself was changing. There were different plots and characters were added and many new animations which made the latest game of Mega Man, Mega Man 10 so different from the first Mega Man game. Mega Man was disappearing its way out of the games’ world due to the rapidly released games on different systems of which means designed be different designers, lack of innovation, and lack of interest from talented designers. Mega Man started out as an average type of game. But as the first three games were designed, the creative skill “rules of 3s” was applied. Capcom believed that in order to get the best game, they had to design three. The designers of the game also polished the 2nd, 3rd game by “connecting and combining”. They took different pieces from different games of the series and tried to make the best out of it. Not only because of the creative skills it uses, Mega Man 2 helps us to develop our think skill because in this game there are many ways of using different strategies and orders to win the game, which is divergent thinking. Mega Man 2 was an entertaining game with amazing quality and its creativeness will always be admitted. Name: Phuong Le Homeroom: 7CN Mark Ginder Work Cited: - Websites: Halberdierv2.
