GetUp welcomes Palaszczuk
promise to investigate 'highest
bidder' political donations laws
GetUp has welcomed Annastacia Palaszczuk's commitment to a full
investigation into the Newman Government's political donations laws.
GetUp Senior Campaigner Sam Regester said: "It might be time to pull down
the 'For Sale' sign from Queensland Parliament House."
"The Newman Government showed it was prepared to put the Sunshine
State's democracy up for the highest bidder."
""When these laws came into effect, thousands of GetUp members made
submissions to the Committee reviewing the laws, called or wrote to their
MPs, attended snap rallies outside Ministers' offices and signed petitions
calling for damaging parts of the laws to be scrapped."
"Ms Palaszczuk's announcement is the first step to cleaning up Queensland
politics."
In an announcement today, Ms Palaszczuk said if her government wins the
required seats it would commit to investigating the source of political
donations in Queensland. The promise was made to win the support of
Independent MP Peter Wellington and the remaining seats required to form
government.
