dagger tutorial part 2

DAGGER TUTORIAL PART 2
UNWRAPPING THE BLADE
1. Select the dagger and make sure you are on Top Level Selection mode.
Add an Unwrap UVW modifier. Under the Configure rollout, turn off the
Map Seams(this turns off the green lines running across your geometry):
2. Under Unwrap UVW, go to Vertex selection mode and click on Point-to-Point Seams:
3. With Point-to-Point Seams, make a cut all around the base of the blade(to exit the Point-to-Point
seams tool, just right-click):
4. At the back of the blade, make a cut from the tip down to the base as shown on the pic below. Press
F3 to go to wireframe if it will make it easier for you to see the blue lines as you cut:
5. Under Unwrap UVW, go to Face selection mode and select the faces as shown:
6. Open the UV Editor and then click on Pelt Map:
7. To unfold the blade’s UVs, click Start Pelt and Commit:
8. Right click the UVs and Relax it. Move the UVs to the side just outside of the checkered box:
9. In the UV Editor, select the vertices at the tip of the blade and relax them. Move the vertices around
so that they are not overlapping each other. If they overlap each other, Mudbox won’t be able to extract
maps.
UNWRAPPING THE DAGGER’S HANDLE
1. Under Unwrap UVW, go to vertex selection mode and use Point-to-Point Seams to make a cut as
shown:
2. Under Unwrap UVW, go to Face selection mode and select the top faces as shown:
3. With the faces still selected, open the UV Editor>Pelt Map>Start Pelt to unfold the handle. Click
Commit:
4. Move the UVs outside of the checkered box and Relax it:
5. Select all of the extra UVs in the checkered box that have not yet been unfolded:
6. Unfold the UVs by using the Pelt Map and Relax it:
7. Use the scale and move tools to
fit all of the UVs inside the
checkered box:
8. Collapse the Unwrap UVW modifier so the fixed UVs become permanent to the dagger model.
9. Use the Swift Loop tool to add more loops on the handle. You need to do this so that when you
subdivide in Mudbox, it will subdivide evenly:
10. Select the dagger, go to File>Export Selected>Save as type OBJ. Set Preset to Mudbox. You will be
importing this OBJ file in Mudbox.
