Introduction - 5 ”W” of journalism
Why ?
I feel that it is a crucial period for the 4 Work Units, in the case of Ion Source&LEBT
because the components are in operation and need to be optimized (+ready for
installation in a relatively short time, whilst a second source is to be built); in the case
of the other Work Units because the construction phase needs to be faster than it has
been up to now. In any case, the discussion of these days are focused to construction
speed increase.
Where ?
It seems to be the easiest answer, but I do not expect that tomorrow at 1.00 pm this
meeting will be closed. I consider that it will begin at that time in all the laboratories
involved with the different actions. Additionally let me say that this is the last one
that INFN-LNS want to host: I strongly wish that the next may be done inside the
tunnel as a "scenographic” meeting room.
When ?
Not just 17/1 and 18/1 but through the 2017 we will refer to this meeting as a new T0 if
we will be capable to identify the deficit in interfaces and more generally in our
previous actions.
Introduction
What ?
The success of the meeting will not be measured in terms of the answer that we will
give but in terms of the questions that we will address properly. We have still some
months to understand if something may be done better, as it can be evident that the
completion of the civil works will increase further the pressure on the Accelerator
team. Therefore I expect that there will be no time left to improve things and inertial
processes will prevail.
Who ?
All of us are responsible of the final results and our ability to help each other will
determine the success of the NCFE. So please disclose any suspect or criticality that
you fear/imagine/realize.We should be not worried if somebody of the “neighbour”
helps us to avoid a mistake.
Somebody may have noted that the list of 5 W is reversed in these slides, because
there is a main difference between the journalists and us: they must represent the
reality without inventing anything, we have to create something never done before at
such a beam power level.

A number of issues seems to be not appropriately discussed up to now. I mention
some of them:
1) Installation handbook and safety prescriptions
2) Ground preparation for fast installation
3) Beam commissioning plan and partners engagement (discussion with Hakan and
Mats started in 2016)
4) Clear list of safety prescriptions during commissioning and early stage of
operation
5) Clear list of maintenance procedure
6) Spare parts
7) Technical informations to be forwarded by partners
8) Training and/or secondment
