Cobb, President, Presiding The School Board of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana, met in special session at its regular meeting place, the Lafayette Parish School Board Administrative Building, Board Room, Lafayette, Louisiana, on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 5:30 P.M., pursuant to notice given in writing to every member. MEMBERS PRESENT: Shelton J. Resolution 12-12-1776 Providing for Canvassing the Returns and Declaring the Result of the Special Election Held in Consolidated School District No. 1 of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana, on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 to Authorize the Renewal of a Special Tax Therein. The following resolution was offered by Mark Babineaux and seconded by Kermit Bouillion: RESOLUTION 12-12-1776 A resolution providing for canvassing the returns and declaring the result of the special election held in Consolidated School District No. 1 of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana, on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, to authorize the renewal of a special tax therein. BE IT RESOLVED by the Parish School Board of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana (the "Governing Authority"), acting as the governing authority of Consolidated School District No. 1 of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana (the "District"), that: SECTION 1. Canvass. This Governing Authority does now proceed in open and public session to examine the official tabulations of votes cast at the special election held in Consolidated School District No. 1 of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana, (the "District"), on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2012, to authorize the renewal of a special tax therein, and said 1 Governing Authority does further proceed to examine and canvass the returns and declare the result of the special election. SECTION 2. Procès Verbal. A Procès Verbal of the canvass of the returns of said election shall be made and a certified copy thereof shall be forwarded to the Secretary of State, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who shall record the same in his office; another certified copy thereof shall be forwarded to the Clerk of Court and Ex-Officio Recorder of Mortgages in and for the Parish of Lafayette, who shall record the same in the Mortgage Records of said Parish; and another copy thereof shall be retained in the archives of this Governing Authority. SECTION 3. Promulgation of Election Result. The result of said election shall be promulgated by publication in the manner provided by law. Shall Consolidated School District No. 1 of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana, continue to levy a sixteen and seven-tenths (16.7) mills tax on all property subject to taxation in said Consolidated School District for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2015 and ending with the year 2024 (an estimated $27,450,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) for the purpose of giving additional support to public elementary and secondary schools, excluding capital improvements in said Consolidated School District? Therefore, the Governing Authority did declare and proclaim and does hereby declare and proclaim in open and public session that the Proposition as hereinabove set forth was duly CARRIED by a majority of the votes cast by the qualified electors voting at the said special election held in the District on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. He indicated that it might be indicative of some confidence building that the school system has been working on in the community. He also said that we will continue to work on it, and hopes that we would get the same kind of vote and support on our next proposition. Motion (Babineaux, Bouillion) that the Board approve Resolution 12-12-1776 for canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the special election of November 6, 2012. Motion carried. Assistant Superintendent Sandra Billeaudeau informed the Board that LPSS had applied for the Louisiana Believes grant program and that the school system had been selected as a 2012 recipient for the I Write! Project. Participating schools are Acadiana High, Scott Middle and Westside Elementary. She also reported that the following schools: Acadiana High, L. J. Alleman Middle, O. Comeaux High, L. Leo Judice Elementary, Lafayette High, Youngsville Middle, J. Wallace James Elementary and Early College Academy had exceeded their projected scores and would be receiving $8,500. Superintendent Pat Cooper reported that State Superintendent John White will be visiting Acadiana High School on Friday, December 7, 2012 to make the announcement, and invited the Board members to attend. 12 There being no further business, it was moved by Babineaux, seconded by Beasley, and carried that the meeting adjourn.
