control feature that is available using the products Embedded Web Server.

Overview
Many HP customers have expressed the desire to provide the Administrator with the
ability to control the order in which the HP Easy Select Control panel’s Home Screen Icons
appear in and / or to remove the icons for Administrator purposes. (See Figure 1)
As of June 2007, HP is excited to announce that with the release of the June 2007
firmware roll for the LaserJet “M” series mfps this request has been implemented.

1.) What is it?
The following document is provided to help the Administrator understand how to use this
feature and to identify items they may want to be aware of before hiding any of the Home
Screen Icons.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.) How does it work?
 Feature control is provided through the products Embedded Web Server.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------NOTE: The Embedded Web Server can be password protected by the Administrator to
help ensure that the settings made by the Administrator cannot be changed by an
unauthorized user.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Web JetAdmin support will be provided at a later date.
2a. Controlling what is presented on the HP Easy Select Control Panel
To use the feature, the Administrator must access the products Embedded Web Server’s
“Settings” tab. This is done by typing in the IP address of the mfp in the address bar of a
supported internet browser.
When the products EWS (Embedded Web Server) is displayed, the Administrator must
click on the “Settings” tab to display the Settings screen and then click on the “Home
Screen Setup” menu item which is found on the left hand side of the EWS. (See Figure 2)

2b. Controlling the orders in which icons are presented on the HP Easy Select Control
Panel
To control the order in which the Home Screen icons are presented the Administrator
must first click on the “Modify Order” button (See Figure 6) on the “Home Screen Setup”
screen.
After the “Modify Order” button is clicked on the “Order Home Screen Items” screen is
presented. (See Figure 7)
Next, the order in which the icons will be presented can be determined by moving the
desired items up or down in the priority of which they will be presented.
NOTE: Items that have been selected to not display on the home screen will still be
presented in order selection list. This is normal behavior and is done so that if items are
added back at some time their order will be predefined.

panel changes are presented in the Figure 7 and 8.

Additional information on the Language Selection Feature
The Language Selection button is a new feature added with the June 2007 firmware
release. This feature provides four additional languages in addition to the default
language that a user can switch to by pressing the globe icon on the bottom of the Home
Screen. (See Figure 10) When this icon is pressed the screen seen in Figure 11 will be
presented.

The choices of languages that are presented in Figure 11 are defined from the same EWS
screen as seen in Figure 9 above.
Note: When a walk up users uses the globe icon to switch languages for their session
with the mfp, the amount of time that the screen will be presented in the language of
their choice will be determined by time value that has been set for the devices Inactivity
timer. The Inactivity timer can be configured from the “Settings” tab of the devices EWS.

The Administration Icon
— Service menu access
In most cases, service engineers will not have access to the Service Menu
— Configuration access for E-mail, Send, Fax Copy and Print will be inaccessible to
support personnel and help desks. Access will only be available through the EWS
and this will only be available if the EWS is not password protected.

NOTE: IMPORTANT SERVICE REMINDER
Service menu access is
still available to the service provider by inputting the device specific
service PIN through the numeric key pad. Refer to the products
service manual for device specific service PIN numbers.
The Job Storage Icon
— If the printer drivers used by the end users are configured to use Job Storage,
stored jobs can still be sent to the device but they cannot be retrieved by the user.
Therefore, it is extremely important that printer drivers be vended or configured
without Job Storage enabled.

NOTE: The Create tab for stored copy jobs can also be removed. If
the Job Storage Icon is selected to be hidden, the Create Stored Job
check mark box in the Home Screen Setup screen will automatically
grayed out and become unchecked because the feature is a subset of
Job Storage feature.
The Supplies Status Icon
— When this icon is removed, paper types cannot be set from the control panel. In
addition, some devices do not have paper size sensing capabilities for their trays so
if a different size is added to a tray in some circumstance the size cannot be
defined except in the devices EWS. Removing this icon will limit the ability for
support personnel to troubleshoot paper size related configuration issues.

NOTE: When this icon is removed, it can be useful to enable the Size
and Type tray prompt. Doing this will allow a prompt each time a
tray is loaded which can help eliminate users from loading the trays
with the incorrect paper size and also allows the user to inform the
device of what size paper has been loaded in a tray. This setting is
found under the following menu: Administration> Device Behavior>
Tray Behavior> Size and Type Prompt.
Fax
white paper
— Even when the icon for the Fax feature has been removed from the Home Screen,
the embedded Fax feature may still be configured to receive incoming faxes and/or
the HP MFP Send Fax feature may still be configured for use with the device. This
is important to consider when troubleshooting the Fax configurations
E-mail
— Even when the icon for the E-mail feature has been removed from the Home
Screen, the feature may still be configured within the products Embedded Web
Server. This is important to consider when troubleshooting the send-to-email
configuration
Workflow
— Even when the icon for the Workflow feature has been removed from the Home
Screen, the feature may still be configured. This is important to consider when
troubleshooting the Workflow configuration
Network Folder
— Even when the icon for the Network Folder feature has been removed from the
Home Screen, the feature may still be configured within the products Embedded
Web Server. This is important to consider when troubleshooting the Send to
Folder/Network Folder configuration
Secondary E-mail
— Even when the icon for the Secondary E-mail feature has been removed from the
Home Screen, the feature may still be configured within the products Embedded
Web Server. This is important to consider when troubleshooting the Secondary Email configuration
Third party solution
— Contact the third party solution vendor to understand the limitations and effects of
removing the icon provided by the solution.
