Wagner FDIX Continuous Output Mode – Manual Addendum 9/06 I. Continuous mode description The FDIX gauge firmware has been updated to support continuous output via the RS232 port. Eight continuous output rates are available: (Gauge firmware version 3.3.3 or above required). The output operation is started and stopped by specific character sequences sent to the gauge. Additionally continuous mode can be configured and started by the force gauge. In this case the continuous mode is initiated by the pressing of the SEND key. Computer sent command sequences are not necessary. Settings available are: 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2, 1 or .5 points per second. II. Continuous output mode character sequences (PC initiated) II.1 - Wagner Protocol (RS232 Functions 1 - 4) The continuous output mode is managed by the use of following commands: II.1.1 - Set Samples per second Set the gauge continuous output mode. Note that this does not start the actual data output. The data output is started by using the CB command. Commands: C.5<CR> C1<CR> C2<CR> C5<CR> C10<CR> C20<CR> C50<CR> C100<CR> - Set output rate to 0.5 samples per second - Set output rate to 1 sample per second - Set output rate to 2 samples per second - Set output rate to 5 samples per second - Set output rate to 10 samples per second - Set output rate to 20 samples per second - Set output rate to 50 samples per second - Set output rate to 100 samples per second II.1.2 - Set All continuous data flow – Include zeros Set the gauge mode to send all data points including zero force data points. Command: CA<CR> D:\81894177.doc II.1.3 - Set over 2% continuous data flow – Exclude zeros Set the gauge mode to send data points where the force is greater than 2% of full scale. Command: CX<CR> II.1.4 - Begin continuous data – Start continuous data flow Start the continuous mode data output Command: CB<CR> II.1.5 - End continuous data – Stop continuous data flow Stop the continuous data output Command: CE<CR> II.2 Chatillon Protocol (RS232 Functions 5 - 8) The continuous output mode is initiated by sending a 4 character sequence to the gauge. The continuous mode is terminated by sending a single character (y) to the gauge. Note that the character sequences are case sensitive. Continuous mode table: Y204 Y205 Y206 Y207 Y208 Y209 Y210 Y211 y - Continuous mode at 100 points per second 50 20 10 5 2 1 .5 - Stop continuous output D:\81894177.doc ll.2.1. Data Collect mode and data output Note that if the gauge is in "Normal" mode, data is continuously output regardless of value. If the gauge is in "Data Collect" mode data will be output only if the instantaneous force is equal to or greater than 2% of full scale range. The data collect mode may be useful in cases where the application does not want to collect the zero force values before and after a test. The NORMAL\DC mode of the gauge can be determined by sending the gauge an upper case "D". The gauge return "NORMAL" or "DC". To enter the Data Collect mode send the gauge a lower case "d" To enter the normal mode send the gauge a lower case "n". Note that the gauge always returns to normal mode when the gauge is powered on. III. Continuous output mode character sequences (GAUGE initiated) The force gauge can be configured to send continuous data when the SEND key is depressed. (In this case the PC does not need to send command sequences to imitate the continuous mode). This mode is configured via the gauge RS232 menu mode. (See section D.3.2 Menu Instructions for details). After setting the basic RS232 operating parameters the RS232 setup menu collects information regarding the gauge initiated continuous mode. After setting the RS232 "Function" parameter the setup menu collects the following information: III.1 - C0oFF\C0 on - Set to "C0 on" on for gauge initiated continuous mode, Set to "C0oFF" to disable gauge initiated continuous mode. III.2 - CrATE\ Sr p5, Sr 1, Sr 2,Sr 5, Sr 10, Sr 20, Sr 50 , Sr 100. Set to desired sample rate. III.3 inCL0\ 0 oFF, 0 on (Include 0 data in output setup) Set "0 on" to include zero data in output and "0 oFF" to exclude zero data in output. III.4 Exit setup menu by powering off the gauge. III.5 - To start continuous output press the SEND key. The continuous mode operation will be indicated by 4 blinking "tick marks" on the gauge display. To stop continuous output press the SEND key again. The stopping of the continuous mode will be indicated by the stopping of the flashing "tick marks". D:\81894177.doc
