Rumor Also… Credit determines promotion: 5 credits = Sophomore 11 credits = Junior 17 credits = Senior II. Rumor Only TAG students can take honors or AP courses. False! Being smart is not enough to determine if you should be in honors or AP courses. You must be a good student to be successful in these classes. II. Rumor You really should take Health and/or Personal Fitness over the summer to get those courses out of the way. False? If you have a plan for what you will take in place of those courses then it could be helpful to take them early. However, most students end up taking something that they do not wish to take because they lack prerequisite courses or they do not have very many semester options. II. Rumor It doesn’t really matter how well I do in the 9 th grade. Colleges don’t really count 9 th grade. False! Everything you do will be recorded on your transcript and evaluated by the colleges. Be aware that high school courses taken in middle school will count in your high school GPA as well. II. Rumors Everyone gets to play sports in the 9 th grade. You just have to have to have the proper credit to continue playing in the 10th grade. False! • Yes. At the start of 9th grade credits are not a factor in participation. However, credits for eligibility are assessed at each semester. Students playing a sport, or are intending to play in the coming semester, will be evaluated. Athletes must be on track for promotion and have passed 5 out of 6 courses (including summer). III. Advise • Work on your study habits now! • Have an honest conversation with your teachers about what you can work on to improve as a student. • Prioritize school. • Do your homework…always. • There are lots of course options…choose wisely (change opportunities are limited). • Balance!
