1. Organisation
Basketball Australia (BA) is the governing and controlling body for the sport of basketball in Australia.
The members of Basketball Australia are the state/territory basketball associations. BA runs the women’s national
league and national teams and national junior championships.
Basketball is an Olympic and Paralympic sport and shares one of the highest international profiles.
Australia, as a nation is currently ranked as the third in the world by FIBA, there are currently 213 nations playing
basketball. Basketball Australia oversees 15 Australian National Teams; these include Olympic & Paralympic Games
plus World Championships.
BA also has a number of national properties in addition to the Aussie Hoops & WNBL and these properties include;
The Basketball Network (TBN)
National Junior Championships
National Intensive Training Centre Program (NITCP)
National Referees Development Program (NRDP)
National Insurance Scheme

2. Position Purpose
This role is responsible for assisting in the development and execution of the Basketball Australia National
Centre of Excellence Program.
Staff will act in accordance with Basketball Australia’s values, code of conduct as well as the High Performance
program’s trademarks as determined from time to time.
In the public environment, staff will positively support Basketball Australia, the High Performance program and
the individual people in the organisation.

3. Specific Responsibilities







Assist the Centre of Excellence (CoE) Associate Coach in the coaching of the COE basketball program
which purpose is to fast track the individual development of targeted national athletes and/or athletes
with potential to be selected as Boomers/Opals.
Assist in the delivery of the daily training support needs of athletes in the Centre of Excellence;
Assist the COE Associate Coach in COE Recruitment and Selection;
Assist the COE Associate Coach in the implementation and review of Individual Performance Plans for
COE athletes
Assist in the effective delivery of the National Curriculum;
Contribute to the National Coaching Network; and
Assist the COE Associate Coaches and other COE staff in other elements of the COE Program as required.
4. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Essential
 Basketball coaching experience.
 Demonstrated experience of developing junior athletes highly valued.
 Specific technical knowledge of individual and team principles including techniques, coaching trends and
international developments
 Effective interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with a wide range of people including athletes,
parents, service providers, management, media, etc
 Demonstrated networking skills to develop, maintain and improve partnerships, networks and client
relationships
 Ability to contribute effectively as part of team working towards the achievement of outcomes
 Capacity to identify and select potential elite athletes
 Self motivated and able to work independently and as an active participant in a team
 Consistently meet competing demands by prioritising in a result oriented environment
 Ability to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods where required
 A desire to see Australian players succeed on the world stage.
Desirable
 Working understanding of Microsoft office
 Proven competency with video review technologies.
 Understanding of the concepts of sports science, sports medicine and technological advancements
relating to elite training programs and their relevance to basketball
5. Qualifications



Tertiary qualifications in coaching/teaching and/or Level II NCAS accreditation is desirable (or
international equivalent)
Experience of coaching at a national level
Experience and proven capability in the holistic development of young people
Centre of Excellence Assistant Coach
6. Remuneration
A package of $50,000 per annum plus super will be offered to the successful applicant.
