School website = www.stluke.sch.je Facebook = St Luke’s School Jersey Dear Parents, What a busy couple of weeks it has been! We have celebrated Armistice day, taken part in the radio 103 “Be Safe, Be Seen” campaign, had a variety of sports events, installed our new Interactive Whiteboards, appeared in the JEP linked to our cooking/healthy eating work and taken part in the De Putron Challenge. Added to all this we have also discovered this week that we have been the most successful school on the island at recycling old telephone directories—a total of 2250 and have won 15 tablet devices to add to our computing provision. Phew!! Makes you wonder what we will be getting up to in the next two weeks! Breakfast Club We currently have spaces available in our breakfast club. This service runs from 7.45am and can provide child care as well as breakfast. Please see Mrs Hamon for more information. Sports Update Athletics A big well-done to our Y5 and Y6 cross-country runners who took part in the cross-country run at Les Quennevais on Wednesday 2nd November. All children completed the race and their attitude and behaviour was excellent. Mr Mildren and I were very proud of how well you did and represented our school. Football I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Watson who very kindly donated 10 pairs of navy blue football socks so that every footballer has the same colour socks. With such a large number of children playing football this year, we had to use some light blue for our first game, however Mr Watson's generosity means that we will now all match! Thank you very much, Mr Watson. Mr Belsey Year 3 Assembly: Children in Need Year 3 produced an excellent assembly today informing us all about Children in Need. It was also great to see so many children and staff around school who took part in “dress down day” and donated to this very worthwhile cause. Today we raised £150.05. well done everyone! Parent Survey Results & Actions Thank you to all parents that took part in our school survey. Your feedback is very important to us and we add in your views into our future school improvement plans. The results to the 10 questions were as follows: The overwhelming majority of you stated that you were made to feel welcome and your children were happy and enjoyed school. A very large majority of you stated that you find it easy to approach the school to ask a question or concern and that we would respond. A large majority of you were satisfied that your children receive an adequate amount of homework, however there was a small minority who disagreed. There were mixed responses regarding the amount of information you receive about the curriculum your children are following. A very large majority of parents felt that they were satisfied with their children’s progress and that the children were taught well and safe at school. 53% of parents were concerned about bullying at St Luke’s school. A very large majority of parents felt that St Luke’s is well led and managed. Actions: The school council are currently investigating homework and gathering views from children, staff and parents. They will be writing their own questionnaire that will be coming home soon. The curriculum information letter that comes home at the start of each term will be redesigned to give more information about the curriculum the children will be accessing. A section on our website will also be created to provide more detail with possible parent sessions planned through the year. Anti-Bullying and our zero tolerance approach (and the success of this approach) to continue to be high profiled.
