JANUARY 7 • 2016 ONLINE EDITION America’s Best Banks 2016 BY KURT BADENHAUSEN FORBES STAFF Forbes ranked the 100 largest publicly traded banks and thrifts on 10 metrics this year regarding asset quality, capital adequacy, growth and profitability, return on average tangible common equity; net charge-offs as a percent of total loans and efficiency ratio, net interest margin; nonperforming assets as a percent of assets; reserves as a percent of NPLs, two capital ratios (Tier 1 and risk-based) and revenue growth over the last 12 months. The raw data comes courtesy of Charlottesville, Va., data firm SNL Financial, but the rankings are done solely by Forbes. All data is based on regulatory filings for the period ending Sept. 30. Each of the 10 metrics are weighted equally in the final rankings.
