Recruitment and Admissions Application Pack: The Student Ambassador Scheme Are you a current Manchester Metropolitan University student? Are you passionate about your subject, Higher Education (HE) and University life? Would you like the opportunity to share your experiences with prospective students? The Recruitment and Admissions Office (R&A) are looking for Student Ambassadors to support our recruitment activities and events on campus. The primary purpose of R&A is to ensure that the University can meet strategic targets and objectives relating to student recruitment, both in the short term and for the future. Students Ambassadors play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the recruitment events. Student Ambassadors are a critical part of the role of R&A, working to enable prospective students to make informed decisions about progression to HE. The importance of the role cannot be overemphasised in supporting the R&A office. Visitor evaluation of our recruitment events consistently shows that the contribution of our Student Ambassadors is one of the most highly regarded aspects of our activities. Student Ambassadors act as representatives of the University to visitors and other stakeholders. Student Ambassadors are mostly used for front of house duties at University recruitment events, such as Open Days and Visit Days. The role can also include assisting with clerical duties to support during the recruitment cycle and giving advice and guidance during the Clearing process. You will need to be enthusiastic, reliable and enjoy working as part of a team. This type of work is an ideal way to build up your skills and enhance your CV. Compulsory training will be provided as part of the Student Ambassador training programme. The position is a casual post offering students the flexibility to work around their studies. Most of the recruitment events are on Wednesdays and Saturdays, therefore you will need to be mostly available on these days. Core duties are outlined below however individual roles will vary according to the needs of R&A. Successful applicants will be placed on a register and advised of relevant work throughout the year. Application Guidance Notes The application form is the first stage in the recruitment and selection process to become a Student Ambassador. It is important, therefore, that you complete all relevant sections of the application form as clearly and as fully as possible. The information provided in your application form will be used to decide whether you are invited for an interview. You must provide all your personal details - Please provide all relevant personal details and contact information, including your address, telephone number and email address. It is also important to supply us with the details about your course and previous education. You must explain how you meet the requirements of the role - It would be helpful to your application if you respond separately to each item in the person specification explaining carefully what particular experience you have that contributes to you fulfilling the requirements. In order to be selected for an interview you must demonstrate that you meet all the essential criteria and as many of the desirable criteria as possible. We will not make any assumptions about your abilities - It is not enough to simply say that you have a particular skill or quality required. You must provide examples of how you have demonstrated this requirement in your present or previous job or in some other area of your experience, e.g. in voluntary work or extra curricular activities. You must be eligible to work in the UK - We have a legal responsibility to ensure that only individuals who are entitled to live and work in the UK are employed by the University. To confirm this eligibility, we will ask you to bring specified original documents to the interview. Usually this would be a valid passport, including a visa for EU or international students, or a full-length birth certificate along with proof of your national insurance number. Key Tasks: Event Support Represent the University at recruitment events, such as Open Days and Visit Days. Support the set-up of recruitment events such as preparing and dismantling exhibition areas. Act as a tour guide at recruitment events, giving visitors an informative overview of the university campuses and telling them about student life. If living in a relevant MMU Halls of Residence, showing visitors around the accommodation as part of the campus tour and telling them about the experience of living in Halls. Play a key part in ensuring that visitors have an enjoyable and rewarding experience at the university by being approachable and helpful at all times. Administrative Support Provide advice and guidance on courses by telephone and in person throughout the recruitment cycle and particularly during the Clearing period. Assist with clerical duties, such as mailings and data-entry, to support the activities of R&A. Team Work Actively participate as a member of the Student Ambassador team, contributing to a professional approach at events. Work flexibly as a member of the Student Ambassador team to ensure the smooth running of recruitment events. Postive Approach Promote a positive image of the University at all times. To provide excellent customer service at events and use your knowledge and expertise of the university to assist visitors. Act as the first point of contact with visitors to the university and answering queries in a friendly and courteous manner. Training Complete mandatory training before recruitment events and take part in any relevant training as part of the Student Ambassador training programme.
