In the case of an emergency at Charnwood-Dunlop Preschool all staff must follow the procedure outlined below: As soon as a member of staff becomes aware of a potential emergency situation they contact the front office on 62057322 and emergency services on 000 if required If the emergency situation requires an evacuation then the Evacuation Procedures are followed If the emergency situation requires a lockdown then the Lockdown Procedures are followed Emergency evacuation drills are conducted every term so that staff and students are aware of the emergency warning signals, the evacuation or lockdown procedure and the use of escape routes. Emergency evacuation and lockdown drills are recorded. Emergency and evacuation floor plans and instructions are displayed in a prominent position near main exit areas. Ready access to operating telephone services or other communication is available for all preschool staff Evacuation Procedures Upon the Evacuation Signal (This is an evacuation) commence evacuation immediately, exit the building via closest exit and walk calmly to the oval behind Hall. Follow any instructions given by the Chief Warden. Leave all possessions in classrooms. Bring the class roll, ready to check every child when you have reached the oval behind Hall. Line up in one single line, mark the roll, ask students to sit. Kirsten and Debbie to wait out front of school for Fire Brigade. After rolls have been marked: Preschool – Yr 2 class teachers will report to Ian Sylvester. Yrs 3-6 class teachers will report to Ryan Lindsay. Executive teachers to report to Nicole N. The teacher who is teaching the class at the time of the alarm is responsible for taking the class and roll to the assembly point. The teacher who is on release should rejoin their class and take over as soon as possible. Escort students to the oval behind Hall and check rolls. Wendy- check Cafe area, storeroom. AREA 12 Lieta/Ryan escort students to the oval behind Hall and check roll AREA 13 Ian/Annette and Anna Check teaching area, storeroom, office and toilet, escort students to the oval behind Hall and check roll AREA 8,9 AREA 10 Computer Lab/Library Wendy/Ryan check area, escort students to the oval behind Hall Hall Wally to check area. Front Office, Sickbay, The Beach Anne-Maree/Aimee Shires to check all areas, check Sign Out/In Books. Bring green folder of rolls as a back-up to the oval behind Hall. Students with Additional Needs LSA’s to provide support to students distressed by sirens Staffroom, Staff Toilets, Book Room, Teacher Resource Room Nicole N to check areas. Counsellor’s Office Caroline to bring any student with her to oval behind Hall During Break 1 and Break 2: Staff and students are to move to the Play Shed oval, line up. A master copy of rolls will be brought to all teachers. Do not attempt to go inside to get a roll. Explicit instructions – No person is to attempt to rescue resources or to re-enter the building until advised by Principal or Deputy Principal. The Principal will announce the finish of the alarm. All teachers are to move back to their classrooms. Lockdown Procedures ORANGE ALERT Front Office staff (Kirsten/Aimee/Ann-Maree) to ring the hooter twice. Deputy (Nicole) to lock front sliding door and wait at front office with Principal. Principal or delegate will announce: “This is an Orange Alert, will all students remain in or return to their supervised classroom. Staff please lock all external doors in your allocated area of responsibility and ensure corridors and non-class areas are clear of students”. BSO to bolt the doors in the GP area. All teaching staff to put flaps down on the sliding doors, close blinds and get children to sit quietly. Mark class roll to check all students are present and have returned from ESL/Counsellor/other programs and are now with you. Students must remain with teacher (no toilet visits) until the all clear given by an Executive. RED ALERT Front Office staff (Kirsten/Aimee/Ann-Maree) to ring the hooter three times. Deputy (Nicole) to lock front sliding door and wait in front office with Principal. Principal or delegate will announce: “This is a Red Alert, will all students remain in or return to their supervised classrooms immediately. Staff please lock all external doors in your allocated area of responsibility and classroom doors and move to your designated areas immediately, until further notice. The police have been notified”. The school will now go into Lockdown procedures as below. Note: The teacher who is teaching the class at the time of the alarm is responsible for taking the class and roll to allocated area. Preschool AREA 1,2 3,4 All students/staff into the storeroom and padlock it from the inside. Carrie/Mary-Kate, Kirstin B/Wendy, Micayla, Alison and Nicole K to move to Area 3 (3/4BW). AREA 5 Rob, Shadreck, and Susan F/Sue McMurtrie to escort the students to the teacher resource room. AREA 12 Lieta/Ryan escort children to the computer lab and lock the door. AREA 8 PJ and Lisa to escort the students to the computer lab and lock the door. Sandra to escort her students to the computer lab and let class teacher know if possible. AREA 9 Victoria to escort the students to the computer lab and lock the door. AREA 10 Fleur and Sean to escort the students to the computer lab and lock the door. AREA 13 Annette/Ian to escort students to Anna’s room and lock both classroom and building doors. Pilbrow Room If you are in the Pilbrow Room escort students to Anna’s room and lock the door. LIBRARY Teacher to escort students in Library and Fish Bowl area to the computer lab. Year 3/4 Hallway Ian/Sommai to escort children to Area 3 (3/4BW). Hall If you are in the hall when the alarm sounds stay there and lock door. Oval Wally to unlock Hall and remain in the Hall. If you are on the oval, take students immediately to Hall and lock door. Front Office, Sickbay, Photocopy Room Kirsten S/Aimee/Ann-Maree to check Health door is shut and locked, take sick bay children/adults to Field Officer/Business Manager Office. Front office staff to Field Officer/Business Manager Office and lock the door. Teacher Resource Remain in TRR and lock door. Active Brain Café move to Field Officer/Business Manager’s Office taking any children/parents Students with Additional Needs – LSA’s to cater for these students with their class. Counsellor Counsellor to move to Field Officer/Business Manager’s Office taking any children/parents from the office. Note: Any parents in the school are to remain in the school with a teacher. ***No outside doors to be opened at any time during lock down.*** END OF LOCKDOWN ALERT – The all-clear signal will be announced, accompanied by an audible signal:“This lockdown alert is now over, could all teachers, staff and students move to the Fish Bowl to assemble together.” All indoor locks can be unlocked and students assemble in the Fish Bowl area to ensure everyone is accounted for. The Principal or delegate will provide an initial debrief of the event.
