environment for the senior leadership nursing
student to analyze a current leadership/management
research article and apply the findings to nursing
management practice.
 Nursing students should understand that evidencebased management (EBM) practice is important to
their clinical experiences as well as evidencebased practice (EBP).
OBJECTIVES

practice user friendly
Objective 2: Utilize the Leadership/Management
Research Clinical Application Rubric
to determine:

 Institute of Medicine (IOM) has strongly
encouraged schools of nursing to include EBM in
their curriculum so students can utilize both EBM
and EBP in their clinical experiences. Therefore,
their practice is based on sound research and
scientific methods (Finkelman, & Kenner, 2012).
 The American Organization of Nurse Executive
(AONE) addresses the importance of evidencebased management practice in their strategic
objectives which states, “Encouraging the
utilization of evidence-based management practice
and sound research to explore and support the
interrelations of technology, facility design and
patient care delivery models” (AONE, 2012, p.2).
 The purpose of this project is to provide an
environment for senior leadership nursing student
to select a current leadership/management
research article with an emphasis on leadership
principles and its application to the practice in
nursing leadership and management.
 The nursing student discusses their analysis and
application to their current leadership clinical
experience with their faculty.
LIMITATIONS / CONCLUSIONS
Limitations:
 In the clinical setting, interruptions occur during
discussion session with student and faculty.
 Limited clinical time-frame.
Conclusions:
 The opportunity for senior nursing students to
apply evidence-based management practice in
their clinical setting.
IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING
EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE
 Senior nursing students have experienced
evidence-based management practice to augment
their evidence-based practice in the clinical
setting.
RECOMMENDATIONS
 Share research findings with charge nurse, nurse
manager, chief nursing officer.
 Present at nurse manager meetings, at nurse
governing board meetings, and etc.
