ETD: news since Perugia • Progress was done on different elements of the architecture: – Clock and control links: a commercial chipset from National Semiconductor has been found which seems to fulfill the requirements concerning the fixed latency and the clock jitter (DS92LV18) • Its technology (CMOS8 => 0.25µ) has been validated in radiation up to 50krads in ATLAS. • It also has to be validated by us, especially looking at SEUs and SELs => see talk from Alberto Aloisio in this session. – The LOC2 chip, which is a rad-hard 16-bit/160MHz serializer designed by our colleagues from Dallas for the upgrade of the LARG electronics of ATLAS seems to be a potential candidate for SVT data readout at 2.5Gbits/s • Work however continues on the commercial TLK2711A chip which was originally selected for data readout => needs validation in radiation – Work has started at LAL on thinking of the implementation of the FCTS system => see talk from Daniel Charlet in this session – Discussions started around a new design of the ROM in Padova, Legnaro and Bologna • The investigated idea is to drive a 10Gbit-Ethernet link directly from the readout electronics without the assistance of microprocessors and software. D.Breton – ETD session – SLAC SuperB Workshop – October 2009 ETD: overall system architecture D.Breton – ETD session – SLAC SuperB Workshop – October 2009 ETD: expectations from this workshop • In Perugia, subdetectors started presenting the way they will deal with the overall architecture for their own design: – This should appear more clearly this time since the last months allowed people to understand the architecture more precisely • For instance, we had a very fruitful technical discussion with our calorimeter colleagues a few weeks ago. – Now we hope to get close to be able to describe functional subsystems coherent with each other at the experiment level – Level 1 Trigger still remains an uncovered feature • Baseline still remains BABAR’s philosophy (“activity trigger”), which allows people to start working easily on this subject. • Steffen Luitz was given the charge of steering the DAQ/online of SuperB. – We have to define the boundaries of this new item and define its connections with other subsystems. – Steffen will tell us a few words about his definition of “online” in this session. – A working meeting will take place at CERN beginning of November, including discussions about the Level 1 Trigger D.Breton – ETD session – SLAC SuperB Workshop – October 2009 ETD: miscellaneous • ETD meetings between workshops: • • • • How ?
