Disability Schools League Drumchapel Table Tennis Club held their second day of the Drumchapel and West Development Schools League on Friday 27th March. The club coaches in over 15 schools in the west area and select players from each school to compete in a schools league one Friday a month. This month, Martin Perry travelled to Sheffield for training; he then went on to Bristol for the BTTAD Michael Hawkesworth National Championships. In this competition Martin came 2nd his highest ever finish! With 12 school teams competing we had an action packed day with 3 matches being played and the leaders being St Clare’s Primary A and St Andrews Primary A who are both on 12 points. We have teams from Our lady of Loretto in Dalmuir competing along with St Andrews Primary in Bearsden and St Brendans in Knightswood and others. From there, Martin travelled to Lignano Sabbiadoro in Italy to compete in the Italian Open. Up against some of the best in the world Martin was unable to get out his Singles group but managed to come 4th in the Team Event with fellow GB teammate Paul Karabardak from Swansea. It has been a great success so far, all the children are enjoying competing and making friends with children from other schools. The league will run until the end of June when we will have our winners. Martin is now in training for the Slovenian Open & Slovakian Open back to back in May. 4 And Finally… If you have any suggestions or ideas for this newsletter, we would love to hear them, as we would like to make this newsletter a success.
