May 2016
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Robert Owen,
Time is racing by and it is hard to believe we have only 6 weeks to go until the Summer holidays. That said,
we are cramming in as much as possible, so please take some time with a cup of tea to read over our
newsletter and mark the upcoming dates on your calendar.
Cross Country
A number of our P4, P5, P6 and P7 pupils
took part in the Law and District Athletics
Cross Country Event at John Cumming
Stadium Course on Saturday 30th April.
They all completed the course. The school
is very proud of their achievements and the
fantastic team spirit shown by the pupils.
Their efforts were hugely successful with
the school coming 3rd overall. Well done to
all and thank you to the parents
who were able to take their children
along, including Val Barr, who kept
the team organised!
Sports Day
Lanark Rugby Club Sessions
Rooms 13 and 14 are being given the opportunity to train
with this local club on Tuesday 10th and 17th May. Sessions
will take place outside, so children in these rooms should
come prepared! Many thanks to the club for these free
sessions!
Track and Field Event
On Friday 13th May I will be taking a team of P6/7 pupils to
this annual event at the John Cummings Stadium in
Carluke. Pupils will be participating in events such as the
100m, 600m and relay races, javelin and long jump. I’m
certain they will do ROMPS proud! Parents are welcome to
come along and spectate on the day, but please be
warned that there is no parking allowed outside the
stadium and there is a 3 hour restriction on the parking at
the Leisure Centre.
Our annual Sports Days will take place on
the following dates:
Monday 13th June – P1-P3 pupils
Thursday 16th June – P4-P7 pupils
Races will be run in the morning, with some
fun sports activities for the pupils later on in
the afternoon.
Times have yet to be firmed up, but we
wanted to let you know the dates as soon
as possible – more information and details
will follow soon!
Summer Prize Giving
Our annual Summer Prize Giving will take place on
Wednesday 22nd June at 1.30pm. Parents of P7 pupils
and Prize Winners across P1-P7 will be invited to
attend this event. Unfortunately, due to the size of
the hall, only 2 adults per pupil can come along. I
understand this might be disappointing, but with
such large class numbers and super prize winners,
this is necessary for health and safety. We will
send tickets home to P7s and prize winners at the
beginning of June.
Prize Winners will be
announced as soon
as possible!

Primary 1 Transition
This year, we are welcoming
48 children into Primary 1.
They will be joining us on
Tuesday 14th and
Wednesday 15th June, in the
afternoon, as part of our
transition program.
Your child will find out their new class and teacher at our “Meet the
Teacher” afternoon on Wednesday 15th June. On this day, they will be
given a letter to bring home, so that parents are also informed.
The Senior Management Team will be made up of:
Head Teacher – Mrs Margo Thomson
Depute Head – Mrs Steele
Depute Head – Mrs McCallum
Depute Head (Acting) – Mrs Gardiner
Some wee reminders...
Mobile Phones – children should only bring these to school if they are absolutely necessary. If they
do bring them, they must be handed into the office in the morning for safe-keeping. This is the
policy held in all primary schools.
Car Park – most of our classes are learning about Road Safety this term. However, much of the risk
they face is in our very busy car park due to the way it is used. I would like to remind all parents
and visitors that, if you choose to drop off or pick up your child each day, you should only enter
the car park if there is a space available. Waiting behind buses, parking in disabled bays or the
drop off zone, or simply stopping behind parked cars is never acceptable and results in our pupils
and staff being put at risk. If the situation does not improve, the car park will be
open for school buses and taxis only at 9am and 3pm.
