A roundtable lunch on HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) Nursing
Education to be held prior to the IAS 2015 Conference in
Vancouver, which will convene a wide range of nursing
experts in HIV and HCV, program implementers and leaders
in nurse education & research. The roundtable will address
HIV vulnerabilities for rural and remote health service users

The Wise Practices Gathering provides opportunities for
multi-directional learning, capacity building, networking,
reflection, and sharing new and innovative integrated and
end-of- project research results. Focusing on issues of
importance to Aboriginal and Indigenous Peoples, this is a
unique event that highlights research by us and for us.

workshops and panel discussions that emphasize
community-based research skill development, Knowledge
Transfer and Exchange opportunities, and dissemination of
research findings. Sessions that highlight the lived
experiences of HIV and AIDS in the Aboriginal community
are offered as well as opportunities to contribute to CAAN’s
research undertakings.
A feast and cultural ceremonies are integrated throughout
the event. This reflects Wise Practices for engaging in
research with Aboriginal and Indigenous Peoples and
respects the territory where we will be gathering. All are
welcome and cultural exchanges are encouraged.
Target Audience: Conference delegates
Viral hepatitis is now the most clinically important comorbidity among people living with HIV. New, highly
effective therapies that directly target hepatitis B (HBV) and
C (HCV) will alter the landscape for co-infected patients.
However, several barriers to access new therapies exist
including low levels of screening, limited liver disease
staging, and lack of hepatitis-specific education and training
of HIV health care professionals.
Specific themes of the meeting include: HCV therapeutic
development and access; HBV prevention and management;
optimizing HCV treatment costs and outcomes; complex
issues in viral hepatitis
management; and challenges and opportunities for scaling
up viral hepatitis programs.

key considerations for the implementation of PrEP among
older adolescents as input into the 2016 updated WHO
guidelines on PrEP
• Identification of adolescents who could benefit from PrEP

sexually active older adolescents in targeted population
groups to use PrEP using evidence and documented
experiences from other initiatives

interactive setting where the latest developments in the field
are presented, discussed, reviewed and evaluated. The
workshop consists of interactive debates and roundtable
discussions on challenging topics aiming at improvement of
the quality of life of HIV infected children in both developed
and developing countries. The 7th International Workshop on
HIV Pediatrics offers an excellent opportunity for
pediatricians, obstetricians, virologists, pharmacologists,
gynaecologists, government representatives and PhD
students active in the field of HIV Pediatrics to be informed
on the latest developments in prevention strategies and daily
management of HIV infected children.

The rich religious traditions of choral music mean a
participant must confront sacred spaces which have
historically defined the queer body as profane, obscene and
unholy. Cor Flammae explores this tension by producing two
concerts in seemingly opposing spaces, inviting audiences to
experience choral music in a space for which it was intended
(a church), or in a historically queer space (a social
playspace), to see how the works resonate differently.
Cor Flammae presents FALLEN ANGELS: Sacred + Profane
Choral Works by historical and modern queer composers.
The choir is thrilled to be led this year by our 2015 Guest
Conductor, Stephen Smith.

In follow up to the successful launch of the new UN 90-90-90
Target for HIV treatment last year at UNGASS, a strong

the above pre-conference workshop to be held in Vancouver
prior to the start of the IAS 2015 Conference.
This is being cohosted by the BC Centre for Excellence in
HIV/AIDS and the UBC Division of AIDS, and cosponsored by
the Joint United Nations AIDS Programme, WHO, PEPFAR,
The Global Fund and IAS.
Registration to the IAS 2015 Conference is required to attend

Vancouver’s Dr. Peter Centre provides care and support to
people living with HIV and coping with social disparities and
concurrent health issues including: mental health conditions,
addiction, hepatitis C, physical disabilities, homelessness,
and trauma. Through a range of services, including nursesupervised injection services, the Centre engages individuals
in their health care with the goals of improved adherence to
HIV treatment, and improved overall health.
The session will provide an evidence-based case study to
researchers, clinicians, and policymakers pursuing treatment
as prevention strategies, and seeking models for engaging
people who face multiple challenges in their HIV treatment.
Evidence includes cascade of care data, data from a research
study on the Dr. Peter Centre, research data on reductions of
leaving hospital against medical advice, and how the Centre’s
harm reduction approach decreases drug-related risks and
improves health outcomes, including ART adherence and
survival for HIV+ drug-using populations.
