Stone fruit
We have a lot of Nectarines available at the moment; the quality is very nice on these. Apricots are coming to an end out
of California, but we will have some fruit out of France before transitioning to Washington by the end of June. Peaches are
very short and hard to come by at this time, but we do have some tree-ripened fruit available which are very good. There
was a slow start on Plums this year and pricing is very high. We will have some Black Splendor varieties in stock next
week - these are black Plums with a red interior that is very sweet. Prices will be very high.
Cherries
We have started our Washington Cherry program with our first load leaving on Wednesday. Sizing looks to be average but crops are
looking to be the biggest on record.
Citrus
Oranges
We are gapping on South African fruit. Next arrivals will be the week of June 19th. After that, we should have consistent
supplies but we anticipate the market to be short until after the first week of July. We currently have a full line up of
California Valencias to fill the void.
1
Juice Oranges
Prices are high and will remain steady for another few weeks.
Grapefruit
We are strictly into South African fruit now. While we are currently meeting the demands of the business, this market is
firm and we could see a gap in July. You should try and stay ahead on your purchasing. The market looks like it will turn
the other way now and there will be more larger fruit and less smaller fruit - we will see.
Clementines
We have Gold Nuggets in now and they are outstanding! South African fruit arrived and they eat very well! We will have
arrivals every week.
Lemons
Demand is still out pacing the supply on all Lemons. We think that we'll catch up to the volume by the second week of
July. Until then, you should keep your coolers full of Lemons!
Limes
Supplies are steady and the market is stable. No changes expected.
Berries
Blackberries
We are seeing very good supplies out of California; pricing remains steady.
Raspberries
The market has firmed up but we still have an array of pack sizes available including 6x12oz, 12x6oz and Organic
Raspberries. All fruit is fresh from California. Also available are Golden and Sunshine Raspberries from Driscoll's.
Strawberries
No changes this week as the market remains steady. Quality is outstanding! We expect to have good promotional
opportunities available in time for the Canada Day long weekend!
Blueberries
New Jersey Blueberries have started this week; look for good promotions in the coming weeks. Fruit looks and tastes
great!
Vine and Tropical
Grapes
The next two weeks will be a great time to have Grapes on ad. Mexico is in their flush and the quality is excellent. We
expect sizing to get a little smaller on Green varieties but with that prices will decrease. There are some bigger sizes
available out of California but the market will be split on price.
Pineapples
We continue to see good availability and markets are expected to have good supply until week 26.
Mangoes
Mexican Mangoes continue this week, both Tommy and Ataulfo varieties.
Bananas
Prices are now stable as supply and demand are back in line.
Papaya
We continue with Brazilian Papaya by air and Formosa varieties this week; no market change.
Avocados
New crop has started. Global demand continues to keep the price high. Next week we should have good supply of bigger
sizes at reasonable prices. Bags have tightened up.
Watermelon
Watermelons are a little tight due to rain in Florida, but it shouldn't last long. The warmer weather should help drive sales
at store level.
Cantaloupes
California Cantaloupes are available now. Pricing is very attractive and with the heat coming on in Southern Ontario this
week, they are a great item to have in stock. Promote!
2
Honeydew
Honeydews are a little more expensive this week coming from both Mexico and California. No changes expected for another
2-3 weeks.
Also available are Hami Melons; these are a very popular Melon due to their sweet and crisp flesh.
