Summer Chess Camp 2017 When: July 24-28, Half Day (9AM to Noon) and Full Day (9 AM to 3 PM) Options Where: Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3229 MacDonald Road, Virginia Beach Who: Students in Grades K-12 (ages 5-17) What: Multi-Level Chess Camp Absolute Beginners: Daily from 9 AM to 3 PM – Learn to play chess from scratch using the ChessKid curriculum and taught by a team of experienced coaches. Enjoy instruction, supervised practice, playing with our giant chess board, chess crafts and activities, and some breaks for recess, lunch, and snacks (bring your own). Cost is $200, and no staff will be paid, so you may write the camp off as a contribution to our 501(c)(3). EIN will be provided. Experienced players of all ages and abilities: Daily from 9 AM to Noon. Featured instructors are FIDE Master James Schuyler (rating 2400) and National Master Justin Lohr (rating 2200). Instruction and supervised practice. Cost is $175. Full-day extension is available for $25 for parents who need it. Your child can pack a lunch and stay until 3 PM playing casual chess with their camp friends and/or helping with the Beginner camp. No further instruction offered in the afternoon – this is essentially a daycare add-on. Why: Chess is proven to help kids with life skills such as focus, impulse control, planning ahead and thinking about consequences, etc. It is also proven through numerous research studies to help kids do better in school.
