Introduction
1.1
Purpose
This document is the user requirements specification of the Podracing service. The document
describes the functionalities and basic user interface implementation of the Podracing service.
The document is an internal project report, and the intended audience for it is the whole project
group.
1.2
Scope
This document concerns only about the final Podracing service implemented in the project. Earlier
prototypes are out of scope of this document.
The current version of the document is a suggestion outlining recommended functionalities and user
interface. The plans presented in this document need to be revised as more information becomes
available.
1.3
Structure
The document has following structure:

Chapter two presents use scenarios. These scenarios are intended to describe for what
purpose user is using the service.

Chapter three presents requirements list. This is a list that presents general requirements
for the service.

Chapter four presents content plan. This plan describes what content different media
brands can offer to the Podracing service.

Chapter five presents use cases. The use cases describe in detail how the interaction
between the user and the system takes place.

Chapter six presents wire frame models. These wire frames are a suggested interface
model for the service.

Study aims
1. How different media types are used?
1.1. Text, pictures, audio, video
1.2. Delivery system (OnDemand, Podcasting, Broadcast)
1.3. Networks (Wifi, 3g, DVB-H)
2. Mobilie media
2.1. Mobile Prime time
2.2. Mobile Prime place
3. What kind of Podracing service is usable?
4. What kind of business model for Podracing?
5
3
Use scenarios
Brief use scenarios are a tool for discussing the Podracing concept. The following scenarios are not
meant to be implemented as such before they are evaluated and accepted by the parties involved in
the project.
Browsing the news. Tarja opens Podracing service and decides to browse through latest news.
Tarja goes through the news headlines and reads an article about bird flu. In the same page as the
article, the service provides links to other articles and audio and video files that concern the same
topics.
Podcasted radio series. Tarja has the habit of listening her favourite science series "Euroopan
kulttuurin juurilla" while commuting to work by bus. New episodes are podcasted automatically to her
phone when they come out.
On demand and podcasted television programs. As the boss is away, Tarja has an easy week at
work. She gets a coffee from the machine and downloads the latest episode of Kotikatu to her phone.
Tarja activates Kotikatu podcasting so that future episodes are downloaded automatically when WiFi
is available.
Advertisements. As Tarja browses through the content, some of the content providers display
advertisements in convenient locations in their sections.
Dynamic content on screen based on radio program. The radio channel Tarja is listening to plays
a new song by Madonna. At the same time Tarja can see on the screen links to the news that are
related to the Queen of Pop.
Top 10. As Tarja open the portal of channel 6, the page displays top 10 hits that user can ask to be
podcasted to the terminal device.

Content plan
Content plan details what content is available from different media brands and from which production
system it comes to the Podracing service. The same content is used for Podcasted feeds and
broadcasted live channels. All the Entertainment content from time frame 1.1.2006-31.11.2007 is all
the time available for the users. News Content is available one week from the release date. Current
affairs content is available 3 months.
The content is all the time updated. News and current affairs content are updated every hour. The
newest news are allways available ondemand, podcasted and, broadcasted. New entertainment
content is delivered for the users every time new content (e.g. series) is available from media brand’s
Net-tv. It is also possible to podcast older entertainment content to Podracing system.
News Broadcasted live channels are build from archive and are one hour long loops. Entertainment
live channels are come from archive and are several days’ long loops. When the system has enough
content to build one week and 24 h long loops the older content is dropped from the broadcasted live
channels loops. New Entertainment content (series) available from Net-tv is replacing once a day
older content. Older entertainment content is still available as Podcasted.
There is going to be 6 broadcasted video channels: Mtv3 news, Mtv3 entertainment, Nelonen news,
Nelonen entertainment, Yle news, and Yle entertainment. Digital television channels (e.g. Mtv3,
Nelonen, and Yle1) are not available from the Podracing service.
Programming guide EPG is build up from Entertainment channels and News Channels tv-programs.
Digital television EPG is not presented.
Podcasted Entertainment feeds come from the same content as broadcasted entertainment
channels. The content is longer (1.1.2006-30.11.2007) available as podcasted. Current affairs
content includes one week news feeds and documentaries available 3 months.
Ondemand news come from the media brands www-pages. They are text, pictures, video, and audio

Interface
Interface principles
The wire frame models present a suggested user interface of the service. The organisation of the
user interface follows the following principles:
The media content is organised based on the media brands. The user first selects a brand; the
system then displays the content the brand in question offers. The entity of content offered by a
brand constitutes a brand package.

The user interface follows the same logic in all the brand packages.

The colour scheme and graphics under to brand packages can be customised according to
channel brand to feasible degree.

In addition to browsing the brand packages, the user can also create own channels (omat
kanavat) that are topical podcast feeds: user can select what content is podcasted to the
terminal based on keywords in the system. These are at the same level in the service as the
brand packages.
The interface has been designed for a device with a four-way arrow key and two softkeys. The idea
is to place all the funcionalities so that the user can see them on the screen. This means that no
menus should be placed behind the left (“Valinnat”) softkey. However, at the top of the hierarchy left
softkey (“Valinnat”) should provide selections for

accessing help

changing settings

closing the application
The content areas are scrollable. If all content does not fit into content area, the user can scroll the
content up and down. A scroll bar in the right-hand side of the content area indicates that there is
more content that fits the area.
The wire frame models are suggestions and they should be modified accoring to what happens in the
project: for example, if there is not much YLE video content, show content from all YLE channels on
one view like in the following wire frames. However, If there is more content for the channels, show
the content for YLE1, YLE2, and other YLE channels separately.
21
Wire frame models
The wire frame models are found in Microsoft Visio document POD_WireFrameModels_v10.vsd.
Viewing the visualisations in this document helps to clarify the realtions between the indivisual
models.
In the following the wire frame models are presented following the channel brands; the components
and principles presented under certain brand are also to be used under other brands.

YLE: text news, video content

MTV 3: Uutisruutu-concept

Nelonen: User highlights, playing video content

Radio Nova: playing radio content


Työmarkkinajärjestöt esittävät laajaa pakettia
työllisyyden parantamiseksi
Työmarkkinakeskusjärjestöt esittävät hallitukselle useita toimenpiteitä
työllisyyden parantamiseksi. Tavoitteena on lisätä koulutusta sekä
helpottaa työvoiman liikkumista asuntopolitiikalla ja verotuksella.
Järjestöt korottaisivat muun muassa valtiovarainministeriön kaavailemaa
muuttoavustusta 500 eurosta 700 euroon.
Työn perässä muuttamista haluttaisiin edistää helpottamalla vuokraasuntojen saatavuutta. Verotusta pyritään kehittämään siten, että se ei
olisi este liikkuvuudelle. Myös kotitalousvähennystä pidetään tehokkaana
keinoja työpaikkojen luomiseksi. Lisää

Hämmästyttävä ohjelmasarja
elämänalusta: solunjakautumisesta,
lapsen syntymään. Dokumentin
toisessa osassa seurataan sikiön
kehityksen toista puolikasta, aikaa
jolloin aistit kehittyvät. Näemme, miten
sikiö maistelee nestettä ympärillään,
hikottelee, haukottelee ja reagoi äidin
puheeseen ja musiikkiin.
