Swimming Selection Criteria 2017
The 10 to12 yrs. NSW Swimming Team will be selected from race results at:
 New South Wales Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA)
State Swimming Championships being held 5 & 6 April 2017 at SOPAC (10yrs to 12yrs)
All children selected to represent NSW at the Pacific School Games 2017 Swimming Championships must be
turning ten (10), eleven (11), or twelve (12) in the year of competition.
The first four placegetters in Age 50 metre freestyle and first three placegetters in all other events will be automatic
selections in the PSG Team. In the case of dead heats for the third place team management will determine the
selected competitor.
All additional event swim places (100 metres Backstroke, Butterfly, Breaststroke, 200 metres Freestyle and 11 years
200 metre Individual Medley) will be determined by team management. To be eligible for selection in these events
children must be selected in the NSW Team from the NSW PSSA Championships. Children who are selected in the
NSW team will be invited to swim in these events based on times swum at the Swimming NSW State Age Swimming
Championships. Team Management may use other sources to verify times ie Metropolitan, Country and the
Swimming Australia Data Base, to select swimmers for the other events if no times are available from the NSW State
Age Championships.
The first three (3) placegetters only in the Open 200m Individual Medley final at the NSW PSSA Championships will
be considered for selection in the NSW Team. Any 11yr old swimmer who swims or is a reserve for the Open 200m
Individual Medley final at the NSW PSSA Championships may be invited to compete in the 11yrs 200m IM at the PSG
provided they have already been selected in the NSW Team. Any 12yr old swimmer who places 4th to 10th, as an
11yr old has finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, in the Open 200m Individual Medley final at the NSW PSSA Championships
may be invited to compete in the 12yrs 200m IM at the PSG provided they have already been selected in the NSW
team.
Where possible, NSW will field a full contingent of competitors in each event. Swimmers will be notified if they are
participating in extra events once all events have been finalised.

Relay Teams
The A Freestyle and Medley Relay teams will be selected based on times swum at the NSWPSSA Championships.
The B Freestyle and Medley relays are based on times swum at the NSWPSSA Championships, as well as the
number of events a swimmer is participating in at the PSG. Swimmers will be notified if they will be participating in the
extra events once all events have been finalised.
