Dales Local Promises 2013/15 Our Local Promise to you about the way we will develop and deliver services in your local area 1 At Dales Housing we are committed to developing and delivering services in a way that is convenient and takes into account the needs of all of our tenants and that of the local area. We have a diverse range of customers, spread across a wide geographical area and we recognise that the need of our tenants in one area may differ from those in another. In consultation with you, our tenants, our partners and staff we have developed these Local Promises that will ensure we deliver our services in a way that meets your local needs. Our aim is to develop and deliver services in a way that ensures that our tenants are always at the heart of everything we do so that we are: D Delivering for you A Accountable to you L Listening to you E Empowering you S Successful together 2 We will work with communities to improve the environment and deliver more accessible services to our rural communities. We will: Make use of the Rural Action Housing Bus to deliver localised services in rural communities. Work with local Parish Councils to ensure there is more access to local information by providing local notice boards within communities and work with established groups to deliver surgeries / drop in facilities. Work in partnership to hold local Dales in the Community events, promoting pride within the neighbourhood. We will promote diversity by celebrating and promoting cultural and diverse events. We will: Arrange and promote cultural events through the year. Facilitate cultural events. 3 We will work in partnership with outside agencies to hold a range of events to enhance the development and lifestyles of young people. We will: Develop, throughout the group, opportunities for work shadowing for young people, holding events that give young people the opportunity to develop work based skills such as decorating, building, etc. Hold events that will promote mixed generation engagement and understanding. Investigate modern technology as a way of engaging young people. Promote environmental events to younger people, eg. Dales in the Community events, litter picks with schools. etc. We will work with communities to improve the environment. We will: Work with communities to facilitate better use of communal land, eg. planting, communal gardens, seating areas. Develop a programme of more localised and accessible estate walkabouts that broaden resident involvement and include a the role of “green inspectors”. 4 We will work to improve the energy efficiency of our homes. We will: Develop a programme to improve energy efficiency of “hard to heat” properties. Hold an event to educate tenants to improve energy efficiency and provide relevant literature. Investigate alternative energy efficient heating for new build properties. When carrying out energy performance checks, ensure standards are increased. We will work with tenants and partners to promote the health and well-being of our tenants We will: Widen promotion with the intention to increase take up of chair based exercises and Wii-fit events. Investigate the value of developing a DVD to promote healthier lifestyles, eg. healthy cooking. Work with the Clinical Commissioning Groups to broaden the role of the Health Trainer, achieving positive outcomes for individuals. 5 We will work with all our tenants and partners to promote their independent living. We will: Investigate the possibility of the introduction of an Independent Living Service for older tenants in the first instance. Review how we allocate properties, ensuring best use of stock for both the locality and the resident. We will work with our tenants to minimise the impact of the Welfare Reform Act and maximise tenants’ income. We will: Identify a dedicated resource to work with customers affected by Welfare Reform, finding individual solutions that meet the needs of the individual households. Work in partnership and effectively communicate with partners and stakeholders. 6
