POSITION DESCRIPTION

Assistant Coach

Netball Operations Manager – Committee Representative

Appointment Term:
Annual Appointment, with annual review and if preferred first option of
reappointment without reapplication process.
Accreditation:
Minimum requirement is Development Netball Accreditation (Level 1)
Championship Assistant minimum is Intermediate (Level 1 ½)
Remuneration:
The Assistant Coach is a volunteer, paid an allowance that is reviewed
annually and is expected to assist with costs incurred while performing
Assistant Coach responsibilities as outlined in this position description.
Remuneration is provided based on experience and qualifications.
Purpose:
1. To provide assistance to, and carry out duties as designated by, the
designated North East Blaze Team Coach, of the designated Team which
competes in the Victorian Netball League (VNL).
2. To provide advice and support to the Designated Team Coach for;
 Annual training schedule of all three VNL teams;
 Delivery of Daily Training Environment for all three VNL teams; and
 Broad content for player development programs.
Selection Criteria:
 Minimum 2 years experience coaching netball at Regional or Association Representative Level
or higher.
 Minimum 2 years experience in netball program development and scheduling.
 Experience working with athletes of all ages, including Open age.
 Preparedness to learn and continue to progress through the coach accreditation and
development pathway.
 A philosophy, ethics and attitude in line with the North East Blaze Netball Club culture.
 Minimum requirement is current Development Netball Accreditation (Equivalent Level 1)
 Current Netball Victoria membership.
Duties:
1. Player Talent Identification:
 As a minimum, attend all North East Blaze selections and attend at least one North East Blaze
Development Program scheduled date per annum.
 Ensure any details of identified players are provided to the Netball Operations Manager for
follow up with relevant coaches if applicable and inclusion on upcoming selections database.
2. Player Selection:
 Sit as an observer with the designated Team selection panel.

Optionally, be involved in any other selection panel for North East Blaze, as approved by the
Netball Operations Manager, either:
o As an observer, or
o If appropriate, sit as a selector on a selection panel.
3. Player Development:
 Assist with the delivery of the annual development program for the designated Team, as
directed by the Team Coach, which as a minimum will include:
o Core Skill development and extension
o Strategic and Decision Making reinforcement and extension
o Physical Conditioning, including skill based activities for preseason and working in
conjunction with specialist sports science or strength and conditioning personnel
o Feedback and Goal Setting
 Assist with monitoring of any minimum Daily Training Requirements as outlined by the Victorian
Netball League.
4. Coach and Officials Development:
 Attend any coach development or accreditation courses conducted by Netball Victoria for
Victorian Netball League coaches, as applicable.
 Ensure current accreditation is maintained or advanced, as applicable.
 Ensure your role and tasks as Assistant Coach are clearly defined and agreed, with assistance
from the Netball Operations Manager if required.
5. Attendance:
Minimum
 All North East Blaze VNL selection dates
 A minimum of 80% of all designated Team – Monday Training Sessions
 A minimum of 30% of all designated Team – Thursday/Alternate Training Sessions
 A minimum of 80% of all designated Team – Matches
 A minimum of one North East Blaze Development Squad program session
Optional
 North East Blaze Development Program selection dates or training sessions
 State Team Squad, Selections or Team sessions
 Central West Zone Association Championships or Academy training sessions
6. Reports:
 All reports will be completed by the required dates as directed by the Netball Operations
Manager.
 Most reports will have standard templates, whilst others will require development by the coach.
 Selections Feedback Report: This report should include strengths and weaknesses
(development areas) for each player considered for the designated Team.
 Round 6 Report: This report should include a brief overview of actual performances of players
and officials, against expectations.
 Final Report: This report will include an overview of the designated Team season, and may
include items such as; team match statistics, team performance, player attendance, team
official performance, facilities and support staff review, etc.
 Other Netball Operations Manager Reports: Provide a brief update on team performances and
any other issues, as required.
