PRE GAME The meeting began with a sharp clang of the bell by Pres. Mike Wratchkchckco (wish he would buy a vowel.) Good thing Tom Nickl is next. No vowels are in the future. We need an Italian President!!! (I’m ready.) Mike began on a sad note & asked for a moment of silence for long time member Vern Seklemian. Our best thoughts go out to his family. Bill McGinn marched in with a broken ankle next to the Hyperian Outfall who had the nerve to wake us all up. Bill told them to do something, so their first song was “Do Something”. No one can sit still when they play. (The exception is Hank Bazak. Nothing keeps him awake.) PRE GAME MEETING Coach Paulie “One Ball” Engle entered with a whistle and an air of grandiosity (thanks for the word Ed Dry) Rules were made to accommodate a female guest speaker, including no excess gas from Bob McCaman, no flashing, fly’s zipped up when exiting the bathroom, and no more big butt showing at the meeting. ( I must say Jim Morino’s butt looked toned!) O.B. Engle left no room for discussion and Mayor Humphrey seemed to agree. FLAG ON THE PLAY Scott Sharpe was fined for marrying Ed Fountain. Ed paid a buck for wearing white at the wedding. spoke about Vern Seklemian’s passing. Vern was a member since 1976, loved teaching, traveling and our club. We will miss him. THE FUTURE 1/22 Jim Flanigan—Boils, learn to love them. 2/5 Robert Piccioni- Einstein for everyone, 2/19 Open date-Rumor has it that Richard Nixon will speak. 3/5 William Ailor- World Expert- Space Junk I wonder if he can help me with my garage. VISITING PLAYERS Dave Kearny paid his $ for offering Pres. Mike help on Senior Tuesday. Charlie Peterson .was fined for the shirt he was wearing (should have been $2), Joe Barnett got a standing ovation for paying his $1. Joe’s image may need an upgrade! Rick Higgins was again fined for taking pictures in the lady’s locker room. Ralph Scriba was pictured in a tux. He looked great, but there are no rules for paying out money, so he paid. Jim Goodhart paid for something, probably for being one of our city fathers. Tony Arminio was fined, but paid us back by telling a joke. Ed McKenna couldn’t help himself and without being asked got up to tell a joke. He skated on the fine. MEMBERSHIP Bill Finer first thanked himself for a good job and then introduced Raajev Agarwal brought by Ram Nadella. Raajev has 3 boys a great family and lives near Ram. It is apparent that Ram is positioning for a high level office in the club and is bringing in ringer votes. (I know----he is not that kind of Indian.) Red Badges went to Bob Sheh sponsored by Joe Barnett. It took him two years on probation to get his badge, but he did pay his dues. INJURY LIST Bill Dorn introduced Ram who kindly Toby Tobias introduced: Jack Ramsey brought by Phil Huff. Jack is a retired educator in PV, has lived here for 31 years, and has never been to the club. Jack gave us a piano concert that was terrific. John Schuricht should take notice on what happens when you practice. Tim Good came with Dan Withee. Tim is a 52 year resident of PV, has been here since he was 6, (That makes him 54.) & has never been to the club. Boy do we have great name recognition. David Humphrey came to protect his wife and has lived here for 30+ years. He has been here before and that’s why he was protecting Rosemary. Chris Hall had breakfast with Ed Fountain, has been in town about 2 years and is an independent oil producer. (Auto, olive, sesame seed?) HER HONOR DA MAYAH Joe Hoefgen, our city manager introduced Rosemary Humphrey and discussed her background in government in PVE having first been elected to the Council in 1990. She is now serving her fourth term as mayor. Rosemary and her husband Dave have been residents of PVE since 1979. They have 3 children, David, Michael and Rachel. She serves as mayor and as principal of Rancho del Mar H.S. Rosemary spent a few minutes introducing the former city fathers I think we impeached about ½ of them. She mentioned Joe Sherwood but he went to play tennis. (Typical politician) Budget We are solvent, and are trying to stay under the radar to the state govt. 61% of the Ca voters voted for prop 21A to prevent the state from raiding our treasury. We have a $6 million operating reserve. 53% of our treasure comes from property tax. The city staff has been streamlined, and cut Joe Sherwood’s salary. The stabilization project on PV Drive west cost $856m and is fully paid by outside funding. 14m cars per day pass this site and 7 cars per day stop illegally to take a picture. www.pvestates.org is our site and contains a host of information including the ability to check to see if you have any outstanding warrants. PVE cares is one of the most popular program in the Estates. 19.9% of PVE residents are seniors. Our head senior John Eberhard is in charge of the program. 800 PVE seniors are registered. The city facilities including the PV Golf Club has the shortest waiting list in history. . PV Tennis club is on the property. They are now accepting members. The PV Swim club has a waiting list. The PV Stables has been updated and is now running in the black. All these venues bring in revenue to the city. Disaster preparediness is a major program of the city. We set up 6 disaster containers administered by PV coordinators. (Dwight Abbott is a disaster and it was a natural to appoint him as one of the coordinators.) Neighborhood watch has emergency backpacks to sustain 2 people for 3 days. (If you do not share it is one person for 6 days.) We have a new police radio system that replaced Dan Dreiling’s megaphone. The city is looking for ways to save energy & the target is to reduce greenhouse gases 10% by 2020. Joe Hoefegrin has been fined for giving off excessive methane gas during his speeches at the city council. What a town! Thank you Mayor Humphrey and keep up the good work. Thanks for listening.
