All coaches will endeavour to further update their knowledge in this area via organised SFA courses. The club has the following written policies in place: o Child Protection Statement o Equity Statement o Player Protection Policy o Health & Safety Policy o Risk Assessment Procedures Our Policy on First Aid Pat Luddy has a current Emergency First Aid Certificate. We always have a trained first-aider at all training and matches. We INSIST on all known conditions being made known on the Registration Forms or subsequent updates to our Secretary/ Coaches. Non-disclosure of a condition is in no-one’s best interests. We INSIST that all emergency or regular medication is in a named identifiable bag brought to training sessions or matches. If this does not occur then the Coaches are instructed to not play the child nor allow any physical exertion. The player’s parents will be informed. Our coaches are not medically qualified and therefore will not be able to undertake any treatment considered beyond their basic emergency skills or knowledge. We will record all treatments and notify parents. If any player is considered unfit to play in the opinion of the coaches, then they will make that decision based on their assessment and replace the player or not select the player. Parents MUST notify coaches of any symptoms / illnesses from which players have been suffering in the preceding 5 days before training and / or matches. Transporting Children Our Policy on Child Transport We are conscious that with our away games, as well as some local travel to training for example that we should insist on some basic child safety practices when taking charge of children in cars. It is vital that every precaution is taken with the safety of our children. As parents you must be aware of how and by whom you are allowing your child to be transported. This is a parental responsibility, not the Coaches’. 1. Children should sit in the rear. 2. Seatbelts (one per each adult and child) MUST be worn at all times. 3. Seatbelts MUST never be shared and cars must not have more passengers than seats 4. Booster seats MUST be used for any child below 134cm tall 5. Driving other parents’ children should not be encouraged unless the driver is (Enhanced) Disclosed and present their certificate to the Team Coaches for registration. 6. Driving other parents’ children must be with the full consent of the other parent(s). Please do not do this without checking. 7. Vehicles MUST be fully insured and MOT’d 8. Driver MUST have a valid licence. 9. Driver MUST not have consumed alcohol or being under any medication that may impair driving. Please do not consider driving with children on a morning if you were unable to drive the previous evening because of drinking. 10.An accompanying adult in the front is desirable with other children. 11.If no prior arrangement has been made with a parent, please do not offer a lift to any child without prior discussion with the coaches. The coaches may contact parents to check if ok or take responsibility themselves. Please remember, it goes without saying that every parent driving children to and from matches and training must stay within the legal speed limits and take extra care. Where you have an agreed car share plan, please discuss this with the coaches for our awareness. Parent “Rules” Do….. Come to the games and offer positive support to all players Ensure players are prepared with an energy based pre-match or pre-training meal Ensure players have plenty fluid for the games or training Speak to the coaches about any playing, training or selection matter causing concern or confusion, or, any health matter which may affect the ability of the player to give their best or is a condition the coaches should be aware of Remember our objectives and team values as examples to the players Ensure players have the correct playing kit i.e. shin pads and correct footwear Do not …. Provide touchline coaching at matches Criticise our players whether your child or another Criticise opposing teams players nor engage in any way Criticise referees n.b. Opposing teams will submit reports on conduct and complaints can result in problems for the teams, ultimately withdrawal from the league. Team “Rules” We will… Register 20 players, and select 18 players for match days. Always give playing priority to those who attend all training sessions. 1. When we have full training attendance on both nights, we will aim to rotate players with a “down week” and we record this. 2. Sometimes we may consider poor application at training or recovering from illness as a reason for a “down week”. 3. Non-selection for poor behaviour, failing to turn up when selected or being on holiday does not constitute taking a “down week” and being rotated. Use players who can demonstrate appropriate levels of fitness and team-play to support their colleagues. Consideration will be given to the team as well as the individual in matters of team selection positions and substitutions. Support and allow players temporarily training with professional clubs or going to specialist training to count their training sessions as training attendance, should these sessions conflict with our own. Players who… Do not turn up for training will not be selected for games. Do not turn up for training on 3 consecutive weeks and have not informed the manager or coaches will forfeit their squad place. Do not wish to train and follow coaching instructions at training may not be selected for games, or, forfeit their place in the squad. Display aggressive behaviour, bullying or negative discrimination will not be selected and may have their registration cancelled. n.b. We continue to have a waiting list (some children listed for over 3 years remain interested in joining). We may invite them to join in place of players not attending training or not following our required code of conduct. Football Kit Each registered player will receive:Match-day playing kit (Jersey (Home & Away), Shorts & Socks) Match-day sweat top Match-day tracksuit trousers Training rain jacket Kit-bag (for jacket, sweat top, second jersey, shoes & water bottle) n.b. Kit must not be worn at any other times other than match-days n.b. Players must take responsibility for placing all items in their bags on match-days – no exceptions, in the interests of not losing items per form signed at registration. n.b. The kit is on loan by the Club to the player. If the player leaves the kit should be returned as agreed at registration. Each player must bring for training and matches: Boots with studs, or, “blades”, or, astro-turf training shoes o N.b. In soccer sevens, it is forbidden to play with metal screwin studs or metal-tipped blades. Screw-in boots are allowed but only with rubber stud or nylon studs. Please ask a coach before you buy – if in any doubt about these rules. Shin-pads o N.b. These are essential for playing AND training. o Players not wearing shin-pads will be excluded from all ballwork and games at training. Water-bottle Arriving at matches, players should wear: Playing Strip (and bring alternative jersey with them, ALWAYS) Sweat Top (may also double as a cold weather strip, ALWAYS) Rain Jacket (AS REQUIRED, BUT PREFERABLE ALWAYS) Tracksuit trousers (ALWAYS) Fund-raising Football is thankfully not an expensive activity, but there are many “hidden” costs that are funded by the Club each year. These include playing equipment, subsidised trips, football festivals, Xmas parties, coaching qualifications, first aid courses, player insurance, physio support, some winter training facilities hire. The annual costs of our team alone will exceed £2,000. There are now at least 14 children and youth teams within the Club and therefore fund-raising is key. Also, as an individual team within the Club, we are bound by the constitution to raise funds to support the Club in all its expenses. The Club Committee also works hard to raise money with Club events and donations and sponsorships to help offset costs. The club is actively in discussions with sportscotland and south lanarkshire council regarding a dedicated synthetic pitch for the club and avoid the winter travelling. This type of facility comes at significant cost contribution to the club and our initial financial contribution will be supported via your child’s subscription. This season, our team will therefore ask for your support as follows: One off payment of £120, or 2 payments of £60 or standing order of £10 per month. This includes registration (normally £20 and all kit and team costs each month). In addition, our team will organise 2 fund-raisers for our team each year: One fund-raiser will go to the Club for general expenses & costs. The second will be used by our Team for necessary additional playing kit or other team-related activities. Finally the Club commits to organising 3 fund-raising events for the participation and enjoyment of all the parents and sometimes families and friends. We would ask you to consider getting involved in these. Any Parent interested in sponsoring any of our kit, or an activity, or wishes to find out more about supporting the development of our children should contact a Coach. We thank you for your on-going support. The SFA Quality Mark In June 2007, Strathaven Dynamo registered as part of the SFA Quality Mark and by May 2008, we became only the third club in Scotland to receive the third and highest level of accreditation by the Scottish Football Association. We were nominated as the Scottish Grass Roots Club of the Year in Jan 2008 Some interesting facts which have supported our accreditation are: With 14 established Children’s and Youth teams, we are now one of the largest Amateur Football Clubs in Scotland with c. 250 registered players. Our standards of coaching accreditation is considered strong:o o o o We have over 40 coaches and volunteers at the Club who have taken at least one SFA accredited coaching course. The Club coaches have achieved over 120 coaching certificates. Our own team now has x accredited coaches and a total of xx coaching certificates of varying levels. We work hard to provide a pathway for boys and girls to continue playing as they grow older each year. Our Club structure is very strong with clear policies & goals. There is an active Committee with Volunteers committing to standards in Coaching, First Aid, Child Welfare and Codes of Conduct. We believe it is vital to aim for standards such as The Quality Mark. We draw your attention to this as we want you to feel your child is involved with a Team and a Club that is working hard to provide them with both football skills &, importantly, an environment that will help positively shape their character & help them progress with their football and/or develop friendships & behaviours which will serve them well in the years ahead.
