Reflection (block of 2 lessons and tasks in the Netherlands)
The students showed great interest in the topic. While some of them already knew about the flood problems in the
Netherlands, most of the students were surprised by the statistics and data about the North Sea flood of 1953.
The lesson made them very curious to visit the Watersnood museum.
Students received several tasks regarding their visit to the Netherlands. (see next page). One fo the task was to
report on the findings during their visit, using the appropriate vocabulary. Another task was to report on the
exchange week itself and the best reports will be published in the school newspaper, a project in collaboration
with the Slovenian language department. Students also had to complete “pre-visit” and “post-visit” questionnaires
about the exchange.
Some of the material produced by students during the course of this year’s preparation for the exchange can be
found on the blog site dedicated to the programme:

Exchange trip to the Netherlands
Instructions for students of Vegova Ljubljana
In the Netherlands, you will be placed in groups consisting of Slovenian and Dutch students. Each group will be
given various tasks by the Dutch teachers.
This document describes additional tasks for students of Vegova from each group. You can seek the help of your
Dutch peers within your group to help you complete the tasks.
Task 1 (group work): Material for the Exchange Blog Site
Your group needs to provide the following material which will be posted by Mr. Torul on the blog:


A day-by-day report of the whole trip (100 words per day)
5 photographs from each day, with appropriate descriptions
Task 2 (group work): Watersnood Museum
Before the exchange trip, you had lessons in Geography and English about the flooding problems in the
Netherlands. During the trip, you will have the opportunity to visit the Watersnood Museum, where you will find a lot
of information regarding the flooding disaster of 1953.
This task requires you to write a report in 100 words, on what you have learnt at the museum. Your report should
have the following structure:



What happened in the Netherlands between 31 January and 1 February 1953
Why it happened
What has been done since then to prevent it from happening again
Task 3 (individual work): Intercultural Awareness Questionnaires
Before the trip, you were asked to fill in two questionnaires about your intercultural awareness. On the way back to
Slovenia, you will be given two similar questionnaires to be completed. Your personal opinion with regard to this
matters are invaluable if we are to measure the success of this project. Therefore, we need you to fill in the
questionnaires properly, with appropriate comments, where necessary.
Submission of work
The deadline for submitting Task 1 and 2 is Monday 7 May 2012. Tasks 1 and 2 must be sent to this email
address: [email protected] , in two separate Word documents, named BredaTask1 and BredaTask2.
For task 3, each student needs to return the completed questionnaires to their English teacher in person when they
have the first English lesson after the holidays.
