Dodge Ball rules THE TEAM Teams will be made up of 6-10 players. Six(6) players will compete on a side; others will be available as substitutes. Subs will wait in line and will be the next player in the rotation of play. The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them "OUT". This may be done by: 1. Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball. 2. Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground. 3. You can play off the nets and walls (e.g. get hit or catch the ball off the nets or walls). 4. Head shots count as a hit. (We use soft, low density foam balls with a thin rubber coating) 5. Player 1(team 1) throws the ball at Player 2(team 2), player 2 hits the ball with his ball and player 3(team 2) catches the ball. Player 1 is out. 6. Player 1 throws the ball at Player 2 and player 2 blocks the ball with his own ball, but the ball gets knocked out of player 2 hands, then player 2 is out. 7. Player 1(team 1) throws the ball at Player 2(team 2), player 2 hits the ball with his ball and player 3(team 2) gets hit by the ball. Player 3 is out. 8. The hand on the ball counts as the ball. THE OPENING RUSH Game begins by placing the dodgeballs along the center line – three (3) on one side of the center hash and three (3) on the other. Players then take a position behind their end line. Following a signal by the official, teams may approach the centerline to retrieve the balls. This signal officially starts the contest. Teams may only retrieve the three (3) balls to their right of the center hash. Once a ball is retrieved it must be taken behind the attack-line before it can be legally thrown. TIMING AND WINNING A GAME The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner. The winning team will receive one point for winning the game. The team with the most points at the end of full 45 minutes of play will be the winner. If the teams are tied at the end of regulation time, there will be one overtime game to declare a winner. There will be two 22:30 minute halves of game play. If there is a game in play when the halftime buzzer goes off the game will pause and will resume after halftime. If there is a game in play at the end of the 2nd half, the game will finish out the remainder of the game. BOUNDARIES During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines. Players may leave the boundaries through their end-line only to retrieve stray balls. They must also return through their end-line. 5-SECOND VIOLATION In order to reduce stalling, a violation will be called if a team in the lead controls all six (6) balls on their side of the court for more than 5 seconds. This also applies to tied teams. AGE AND GENDER The Zone Sportsplex Dodge Ball Leagues are for ages 14+ and are Co-ed.
