Congratulations Kakapo Team and Kiwi Teams
Dear Parents/caregivers
The Kakapo team had a great turnout for their Fun Family Night on
Wednesday day night. The parents I spoke to said they really
enjoyed the night and the children were obviously having fun. Early
in the week the Kiwi team held a very successful camp day which
was again well supported by parents. Well done everybody.
Reminders
Fonterra School Healthy Milk Programme
We are part of the Fonterra school milk programme – children
receive a 200ml milk box daily which is chilled, healthy, and
yummy, at no charge. Most children love the milk however if you
don’t want your child to have milk, and haven’t already done so,
please advise Joy our office manager. “Milk” will start on
Monday 29 February. (You can also email Joy at
[email protected] )
Pou Unveiling
Wednesday was a very special day in the history of Pukete School
as we celebrated the unveiling of our Pou. Various VIP’s attended
including the Hon. Te Ururoa Flavell, the Minister for Maori
Development, and local Kaumatua. Our tamariki were fantastic,
especially the kapahaka group - I was very proud of them all.
Special thanks to:
Willy Heteraka – Board member who has lead the Pou project
Stephen Chibnall – BOT Chairperson
Wiremu Puke – Master Carver Sam Roa – Carver
Maori elders – Anthony Waruhia, Bill Gudgeon, Hekeiterangi
Broadhurst
Jacob Nepia and Chantelle Tuau – Kapahaka tutors
Ant Cuthers – pastor
Te Ururoa Flavell – Cabinet Minister
BOT, Staff, PTA helpers, and children of Pukete School, you
were outstanding and contributed to a wonderful day.
The Board have been working for 2 years towards the Pou
unveiling and personally I have come to a much better
understanding as to the significance of the Pou;




The Pou stands to acknowledge and honour the people of this
land. Maori have lived in Pukete for at least 500 years. The
Pou tells their the story. Please see the attached Pou story.
The Pou symbolises the act of guardianship- or caring for our
people and land. The Pou reminds us to look after each other
and care for our land.
The Pou brings mana to our school as we stand tall and show
we are proud of our history.
The Pou aligns with our flag reminding us of our history and
our shared future together.
Drop Off Zone – The Virtue of Consideration Please
Please do not park in the drop off zone i.e. leave your vehicle.
Unattended vehicles often block the exit meaning other drivers
can’t then exit the carpark.

SPORTS RESULTS
Touch 2016
Yesterday saw the start of the 2016 Touch season at Swarbrick
Park. Pukete was represented by over 40 children playing in 5
teams. Many, many thanks for all the parents who came and
supported and also for helping out by taking on the roles of
coaches and managers. This is very much appreciated. We have
one result in so far:Pukete Lions played Templeview Storm and
lost 2 – 5. Player of the day was Reuben for great field play and
scoring a try.
NEW WORLD TE RAPA – SPONSORHIP OF PUKETE SCHOOL
Pukete School has negotiated a sponsorship arrangement with
New World Te Rapa that provides significant funds to support
students, teachers and parents of our school. All we need is for
Pukete School households to shop at Te Rapa New World and this
will result in a donation to our school to the value of $1.00 for every
standard Fly Buys point earned. One of the best advantages to
this sponsorship is that it doesn’t cost you anything. You do not
lose your Fly Buys, you still retain them but Te Rapa just match
them and donate to the school in the form of vouchers.
If you haven’t already signed up to this sponsorship scheme would
you please consider doing so and we attach an enrolment form for
completion and return to the school office.
Many thanks.
