Longhoughton C of E Primary School March 2017 Newsletter World Book Day 2017 Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March. Once again the children looked fabulous in their costumes. They really enjoyed the quizzes that the PFA organised and the story hat activity in the afternoon worked well with some very creative end products. Thank you to everyone who came to the Book Fair last week; £622 worth of books were purchased and this means the school has £311 in commission to spend on books. Comic Relief 2017 – Friday 24th March As part of Comic Relief we will be holding our 5th Annual Bake Off. This year the classes will be challenged to bake a small savoury tart. During the week beginning 20th March the classes will be working to bake their class entries that will be taste tested on the afternoon of Friday 24th – which class will win the glitter spoon this year? Bake Sale – the class savoury tarts will be available to buy as part of a PFA Comic Relief Bake Sale – please can we have more contributions – cakes, biscuits etc. It will also be non-uniform day – we would like to ask the children to make a contribution of £1 towards Comic Relief. When the children are choosing their clothes for non-uniform day please remember that France and Egypt Classes will still be going to Willowburn for their swimming and sporting activities. India Class will still be changing into PE kits for their weekly dance lesson. Dogs in the school grounds We have become aware that there are several families bringing dogs to school at the end of the day. Whilst we appreciate this is a really good opportunity to walk the dog and it also means you leave the car at home we are seeing more and more dogs being tied up at various locations on the school site. So far all of the dogs have been well behaved and have responded well when approached by children who naturally want to stroke a dog. However this may not always be the case. We do not want to stop you walking your dog to school to collect your children but we do ask that you do not leave them unattended. If your child is in France or Egypt Class then please let your child’s class teacher know to look for you at the school gate and they will let your child walk to meet you. If your child is in Brazil or India Class please either ask another parent to collect your child (and let us know who through the red book) or ask someone to wait with your dog while you collect your child or let us know you will be at the gate and we will arrange to bring your child to you. Sainsbury’s School Games Update During the Autumn Term France and Egypt Classes took part in an intra-school rounders competition. More recently some children from both classes have taken part in a netball competition at Willowburn, the rest of the children will have their competition before Easter. Photographs of the winning teams can be seen on the school website. Currently the Castle scores are: Alnwick 40 Bamburgh 43 Dunstanburgh 29 Warkworth 32.
