• NDIIPP Goals:
– Identify and collect at-risk born-digital content
– Build and support a national network of partners
working together to preserve digital content.
– Develop technical tools and services for preservation.
– Encourage public policy to support digital preservation.
– Show why digital preservation is important.
• PCA: eight partnerships to address the long-term
preservation of creative content in digital form,
including digital photographs, cartoons, motion
pictures, sound recordings and video games
The Research Problem
in a Nutshell
How do we make all this last 100 years or more?
You are in a maze of twisty
little passages, all alike.
How we’ll approach the
problem
• Investigate existing practices for documenting
and archiving games/game play
• Develop case set of games & interactive fiction
for more in-depth examination of impediments to
long-term preservation, both social and technical
• Develop schema and knowledge management
practices for preserving digital games
• Test those practices through archiving case set
at institutional repositories at Stanford and UIUC.
