Everett played as advertised in the season
opener on Thursday against rival Taft.
Everett threw for 355 yards and five
touchdowns. He also ran for one more.
TEVIN MORENO
SO., LB
The sophomore made an impression on
Friday as he had ninth tackles, including
two for loss in last week's win against
rival Taft. He will be tested this week
against Mathis' Slot-T.
KARL GIBSON II
SR., RB
Gibson, a 1,000-yard rusher in 2015, led
the Pirates with 64 yards and will be
keyed on by Odem's defense.
ISAAC SALINAS
SR., RB-LB
Salinas was part of a defense that held
Falfurrias to 111 total yards.
KEY MATCHUP
Odem's offensive line vs. Mathis'
defensive front
Mathis' front seven is active and will work
to put as much pressure on Michael
Everett as they can. If Mathis can force
Everett to make quicker decisions than he
would like it could get Odem's highpowered offense out of a rhythm.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Both of these offenses are high powered
but use different styles. Mathis' grind-itout Slot-T offense can churn up yards and
clock and that could be key for them to
keep Everett and the Owls attack off the
field. This game is also a chance for both
teams to gauge where they are at and
what will need to be worked on moving
forward. This game should not disappoint
in terms of drama. The game is also Fox
Sports Southwest's DQ Big Game of the
Week, which will add to the intensity.
