Instrumental lessons and Ensemble Sessions at BPM Participants’ contribution to safety: Information for parents, carers, children and young people These rules apply to music sessions, lessons and performances held across BPM. About Bristol Plays Music: The Centre is a learning environment and BPM implements many practices that are used in schools to ensure the safeguarding of all children and young people. Therefore, please note: No drugs or alcohol (other than prescribed for medical purposes) are to be brought onto the premises. Violence, bullying and disorderly behaviour is not tolerated. Theft and damage to property will be reported to the relevant authorities. Bristol Plays Music (BPM) has a long history of providing music tuition for children and young people in a friendly and secure environment. Your contribution to safety is vital. Please read this document to understand how, as a partnership, we can ensure the wellbeing of your child whilst in our care. BPM’s contribution to safety: BPM tutors and support staff are experienced in working with children and young people. They are responsible for your child for the duration of the sessions. BPM ensures each tutor has an enhanced DBS certificate and is clear to work with children of all ages. Medical records and emergency contact details of participants will be available to tutors, and a firstaid trained member of staff is present at all sessions. Attendance registers are kept and parents of children aged 11 or under are asked to sign their children in and out of the Centre. Children aged 11 or over are asked to sign themselves into the building. Session registers will be taken by the tutors. Tutors follow Bristol Plays Music’s strict safeguarding policies and procedures. A BPM member of support staff will be at the Centre during all lessons. Parents/Carers’ contribution to safety: We encourage you to put safety first. Do not assist people you do not know to enter the site. Direct them to a member of staff. Students will not be allowed to leave the site during a session. All children aged under 11 must be brought to the Centre, and collected by a designated adult (please see ‘Home Travel Arrangements’ overleaf). Please endeavour to collect your child promptly at the end of each lesson. Do not arrange to collect younger children from the car park area or the street. Parents/carers must come into the building to collect children. If you see anything you think is unusual, please speak to a member of staff. Parents/carers will be contacted to collect their children immediately if they are found to be breaking the above rules. This may result in them being permanently excluded. General Behaviour For general behaviour issues such as rudeness or persistent lateness, we operate a three tier warning system: 1. 2. 3. Verbal warning and call to parents Written warning and call to parents The child is withdrawn from lessons. No refund of lesson fees will be given. Access Participants are only permitted in the designated teaching rooms, access corridors and toilets. Anywhere else is out of bounds, and will be subject to a warning. Age Group 5-10 years (KS1, KS2) Parents/carers must accompany their children to the Centre and wait on site in one of the designated areas. 11-16 years (KS3, KS4) Young people between 11-16 years can travel independently to BPM, West if consent is given in writing in the agreement overleaf. Alternatively, parents may wait on site in one of the designated areas. 16-18 years Young people will be allowed to leave the Centre after their lesson, unless informed to the contrary is provided overleaf. Bristol Plays Music Declaration BPM is responsible for delivering a high standard of tuition in a safe, positive learning environment. All young people under the age of 18 will be responsibly looked after by BPM whilst in designated areas and behaving in an appropriate manner. Designated areas are defined under ‘Access’. We define appropriate behaviour as following the rules as laid out in this document. BPM will take all reasonable steps to protect and look after the children and young people in their care. Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring that young people behave in an appropriate manner. BPM reserves the right to send anyone home that they consider to be behaving in an unacceptable way.
