JOINT ACTION PLAN: 2011-2012 In view of the current priorities and financial constraints, both organisations have agreed that the Joint Action Plan will: support jointly the health and education sectors in dealing with changes to the NHS workforce across all professional and occupational groups: Work within this action is likely to include support for the review of nursing and midwifery provision with Scottish Government Health Department (SGHD) ; supporting continuation of provision for Operating Department Assistants; supporting SGHD’s work on medical and dental training provision; investigate and make proposals for joint procurement opportunities and collaborative purchasing: Work within this action is likely to include extending the collaborative purchasing model to include universities and colleges library provisions in health. support development of curriculum re-design and research activity to improve quality in the deliver of healthcare: Work within this action is likely to include supporting joint engagement (such as conferences and workshops) with the health and education sectors to encourage the embedding of quality improvement methodologies both in the NHS and in institutions. identify projects which will ensure the more efficient delivery of healthcare education and training: Work in this action is likely to include the dental collaborative project which will consider options for more collaboration between the three pre- registration dental schools; support for development and use of systems for the recognition of prior learning, support for developments for the joint health and social care Further information Helen Raftopoulos, Assistant Director (Health), Scottish Funding Council Direct line: 0131 313 6577; email: [email protected] Professor Brian Durward, Director of Educational Development, NHS Education for Scotland Direct Line: 0131 313 8010; email: [email protected] 16 May 2011
