STUDENTS:
REMINDER = NO SCHOOL on Monday, Feb. 16th
Congrats to Devin Fisher – receiving 4th place in her Solo Dance Competition on Saturday,
Feb. 7th.
The Varsity Panthers will have the special opportunity to play on a college floor this Saturday,
Feb. 14th at Olivet Nazarene University. The opponent is RVC rival Tri-Point and tip-off is
scheduled for 1:00 PM. Admission is $6 which will cover both the GSW vs. Tri-Point game as
well as the Olivet game which follows immediately after we play. We hope our ORANGE
CRUSH section travels to Bourbonnais and that we have a great representation of fans at this
event. For any more details, please see Coach Gibson.
The GSW Business Club will be sponsoring their 2nd blood drive of the year on Wednesday,
February 18 from 2:00-6:30 PM. If you are interested in donating, please contact a business club
member or Coach Gibson to reserve your time slot. We had an EXCELLENT 1st drive and are
looking to improve upon that with this one. We appreciate your support!!
The 1st Annual Teen Prom Expo will be held at the Grundy County Administrative Center in
Morris on Saturday, February 21st from 9 am – noon. This event is for guys and girls.
Registration for prizes will begin at 9 am. There will be a safe dating presentation from 9:30 10:30 then the shopping begins along with hair and make-up tips. The drawing for prizes will
begin at 11:30 and winners must be present. Stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer.
The next Mobile Food Truck is coming to South Wilmington on Monday, February 23rd from
4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Catholic Church Parking Lot.
Indoor winter Carnival on Thurs, Feb. 26 at Gardner Grade School and they need volunteers.
Sign-up in the office if you would like to help and we will get the information to the Grade
School.
If you would like to take the JJC COMPASS Test at GSW on Thursday, March 19th you will
need to complete a JJC application online AND sign up with Ms. Kilmer in the guidance office
by Monday, March 9th. The COMPASS test is required for all JJC college freshman and any
student planning to take English 101/102 as a high school senior.
Townships of Illinois is awarding a $1,500 scholarship. You must plan on attending college in
Illinois. Deadline is March 1, 2015. See guidance for more info.
Just a reminder: Lions Club Breakfast is seeking students needing community service hours.
Upcoming date = MARCH 8, hours to work are 6:45am-12:15pm. Sign-up sheet in the office.
Congratulations to GAVC Director Award winners for January--Tyler DeMoraes in Computer
Maintenance and Trevor McDaniel in Criminal Justice.
Students - If you have new or gently used prom items such as dresses, shoes, jewelry, etc. that
you would like to donate see Ms. Kilmer.
SPORTS:
Congrats to Wednesday night's raffle winner Susan Myrick. She won $40. Congrats to last
night's winner Craig Meece. He also won $40.
Any girls interested in playing Soccer this Spring, please see Ms. Dallio.
CLUBS:
Attention Business Club Members: We need workers for the day of the blood drive.
Business Club President Delaney Sistek has the sign-up sheet for working. Please see her to

GUIDANCE:
Need help with the college selection process? University of St. Francis will host a College
Search Workshop on Monday, March 2nd from 5:30 - 6:30 pm in The Abbey, Marian Hall. See
Ms. Kilmer for more information.
The Joliet Junior College 2015 African-American Teen Summit will take place TODAY
Friday, Feb 13th from 9 am - noon. See Ms. Kilmer or the JJC website for more
information.
JJC Campus Visit Days are March 2nd (NO SCHOOL) and March 11th. Please register online, if
you plan to attend.
Discover JJC will be held on Saturday, March 14th from 9 am - noon.
The JJC Vet Tech Open House will be Saturday, March 14th from 9 am - noon.
Juniors interested in a career in Business!! College of Business at ISU (Katie School of
Insurance and Financial Services) is inviting you to participate in the Redbird High School Risk
Management Challenge. This is a FREE summer camp to those who qualify and are selected. For

Illinois Division of Sons of Confederate Veterans is offering a $1000 college scholarship. For

Anyone interested in attending a camp this summer, Northern Illinois University if offering
"Summer in the Arts" or University of Wisconsin Whitewater offers Warhawk Junior Tennis
camp. Please visit the guidance office for more information.
The Local Masonic Lodge is offering a $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior planning to
attend a 4-year college - 2-year junior college - or an accredited trade school or vocational
training program. Please see the Guidance Office for more information.
Any Senior interested in a career with IBEW Local #176 see guidance office for application
information.
Any Senior Girl pursuing a career in Education, Delta Kappa Gamma is offering a $1000
scholarship. Please see guidance office for more information!
Seniors - If you plan to attend JJC next year be sure to apply for scholarships! Visit
www.jjc.edu/scholarships to get started. If you need more information stop by the guidance
office and pick up a flyer.
JJC offers FAFSA workshops starting February 11 and running thru March 25. Visit the JJC
website or stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer with specific information. Last year
FAFSA money ran out February 28th. Be sure to apply early for your best chance to receive
financial aid.
There are a lot of new scholarships available to graduating seniors. For more information see the

Any SENIORS interested in a career as a John Deere technician, Lakeland College has an
Agriculture Open House on March 6, 2015. For more information, stop by the Guidance Office.
Students if you are interested in learning more about Nuclear Programs offered through State
Tech College in Missouri (formerly Linn State) sign up in the guidance office ASAP.
Completing this program could lead to a position at one of the local nuclear power plants.
Students - If you plan to play a sport at the college level make sure you meet with Ms. Kilmer to
discuss the NCAA Clearinghouse. Student athletes at a Division I, II, or III institute must meet
rigorous academic requirements. Together we can review the courses you have taken and those
you plan to take to make sure you meet the necessary criteria.
If you plan to go to JJC before transferring to a 4 year college and you want to make sure that
your taking the classes that will transfer correctly you can attend a Transfer Success Info
Session. They are offered one Tuesday and Wednesday a month. For more information, please

If you are interested in attending an open house at the Midwest College of Cosmetology and
Esthetics stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer. Open house date = March 28th from 10
am - 1 pm.
