The Museum

The Museum offers:

Annual salary of between $76,758 and $86,031 plus superannuation. Employment
conditions are covered by the National Museum of Australia Enterprise Agreement
2017–2020 or its successor. Other arrangements may be negotiated under an individual
flexibility agreement.

Responsibilities of the section
The Learning Services and Community Outreach Business Unit delivers a range of
education, public and community outreach programs on behalf of the Museum. The
Business Unit focuses on lifelong learning opportunities for the diverse range of
Museum visitors, both at its Acton site and throughout Australia, with an increasing
emphasis on the creative and imaginative use of existing and new technologies. The unit
works closely with the curatorial, publishing, communications and marketing, visitor
services and fundraising and development Business Units in order to successfully
engage national and international audiences in accordance with the Museum’s strategic
priorities.
Responsibilities of the position
Specifically the role is responsible for:











managing and leading the Section’s Learning Services Officers who are
responsible for the development and delivery of programs for visiting school
groups to the National Museum of Australia
coordinating the day to day operations of the programs delivered to visiting
school groups at the Museum including liaising with education volunteers
facilitating the development of programs for visiting school groups at the
Museum which reflect and embed the National Museum of Australia’s
education and learning policy and strategic priorities related to education and
learning, and delivering these programs as required
ensuring that schools programs reflect and embed the principles described in
the National Museum of Australia’s relevant learning, interpretive and outreach
policies, and the Museum’s strategic priorities related to learning and audience
development
keeping abreast of museum learning trends and initiatives in particular, and
broader education and learning trends and initiatives generally, to ensure that
the Museum’s programs for schools are responsive and innovative
working closely with the Family Programs Coordinator to ensure that programs
designed for children and young people at the Museum are considered as a
whole
monitoring the quality of the delivery of programs to visiting schools, and
ensuring that these programs are evaluated
contributing to the development and delivery of professional learning sessions
to teachers and pre service teachers
contributing to the Section’s business planning and ideas generation meetings,
reporting, and budget management as required
ensuring that he/she has sufficient supervision, instruction and equipment to
undertake his/her work safely
ensuring that employees in the Schools team are provided with sufficient
supervision, instruction and equipment to enable them to perform their duties
safely.

Selection criteria
Applicants must respond to each of the following selection criteria in their
application:
1. Proven capacity to manage and lead a small team responsible for the delivery of
a variety of programs to school groups in a museum or equivalent context.
2. Demonstrated experience and ability to facilitate the development of learning
programs for school groups predicated on pedagogical innovation and
excellence, and substantial experience monitoring the quality of these
programs.
3. A substantial understanding of the latest museum learning trends and initiatives
in particular, and broader education and learning trends and initiatives
generally, especially as they relate to school education.
4. Demonstrated experience developing and delivering professional learning to
teachers and pre service teachers.
5. Good project management skills in relation to the facilitation of education
programs and projects.
6. Relevant tertiary qualifications to support and enhance your ability to perform
at a high level. These might include the Humanities, particularly Australian
History, Education and/or Museum Studies.
