Finding Songs & Music You’re Excited About
Tips From
Marlene
One of the most important things you can do to increase your skills and to get you
excited about playing your guitar is to find the songs and music that you’ve always wanted to
play and/or the ones that inspire you. Whether it’s a song you just heard on the radio or one
you’ve been thinking about learning for a long time, you’ll be able to find it easily.
There are many resources available to find your music ~ sheet music, music books
and of course the internet. Let’s take a look at the internet as a music source. We quite literally have a
wealth of songs right at our finger tips. There are a multitude of websites devoted to guitar music and in many formats.
Most of these sites are called “tab sites”, but you will find these sites contain both tablature and chord form. If you are thinking that there are so many out there, so where do I start? Then you are normal!.
In your search for tab websites you will find ones with a mixture of all types of songs or you can narrow the field by
looking for sites specific to the genre of music you are interested in playing, like country or Christian, etc. An example of a
multiple genre site is Ultimate-guitar.com. On this site, which is typical of most sites, you will find thousands of songs with a
variety of ways to play those songs.
Once you’ve found the website that you want to try, then the next step is to
type in your song title. You’ll generally get a list of several versions of the song.
Start by choosing the song in the format you prefer. It’s a good idea to have your
guitar with you while you’re searching so you can play the song and determine
your favorite version. Once you’ve found the one you like, print it and play away.
If you find the song of your dreams has chords you are not even remotely
familiar with, don’t fret! And don’t let that prevent you from playing your song.
Rather, embrace the opportunity to learn something new ~ that goes for tablature
too. Just like the song websites, you can find chord chart resources on-line.
It’s all available for you to try, so now there’s nothing stopping you from
playing the songs and music you love!. Play on...
“Learn to Play Guitar in a Day!”™ Workshop News
The 2013 ”Learn to Play Guitar in a Day!”™ workshop schedule includes a new location ~ University of Washington (Seattle). PBS broadcasted the workshop in San Diego, Maryland, Kansas City,
Maine, Vermont, Miami & Arkansas.. KPBS hosted an exclusive members only workshop at their studio in
San Diego in January.
“Learn to Play Guitar in a Day!”™ is a 1 day workshop for busy adults who would like to learn to
play guitar, but do not have time for weekly lessons. Launched
in 2009, Marlene Hutchinson created a 1 day workshop based
on her hugely successful private lesson format. The workshop
is the equivalent of taking six weekly lessons in just one day!
Here’s what workshop attendees are saying…
“Very impressed, will tell everyone!” Colin ~ San Diego, California
“I can’t believe how much I learned in 1 day!” Elizabeth, San Jose, California
“I was amazed at the amount of knowledge I was able to receive in a short time.” Victor ~ Seattle, Washington
“I liked learning the chords, lots of great information, I loved it!” Debbie ~ Castle Rock, Colorado
“Marlene took the mystery out of playing guitar.” Erik ~ Centralia, Washington
“I liked learning the chords and then immediately playing songs.” Erin ~ San Diego California
